PAS Lucky 13 Spring ’17 Week 5 round up!

Oooh look! Not Arsenal colours then…

Glory Box”:  It’s all about taking chances innit – ask Theo Walcott…ahem.

If you’re brave enough to give a bit of credit to a lost cause, then one day it may pay (ask Richard Hughes!).

25 players clocked up 30 plus points this week with five of them impressively hitting the 40 point mark and beyond.

Stephen P, back from a few years in a PAS-free wilderness, was looking good for a win as his beloved Toon smashed in a superb 1-3 win at Huddersfield and earned him 5 points to boot. Howay!

However, renowned Northern soul DJ and sample-meister extraordinaire Andy Smith 44 (6) saw his punt on lowly St Mirren scoring at Celtic in the Cup pay off to the tune of £2o as those nine points surged him to the top of the weekly pile.

It would’ve been poetic if you got to 45 though Andy!  (that’s a pun about vinyl millennials. And notice I said “vinyl” and not “vinyls”. Cos it’s “vinyl”. Ok?!)

Sour Times”:  At the other end of the scale, 17 people took their chances and got nish joy – scoring under 20 points.

The professional Predictz came horribly unstuck on unlucky 13, but proving that birthday’s aren’t always cakes, candles & cash, renowned Northerner Ben McKeown 12 (0) finished bottom of the pile this week.

Hard lines Benny boy – get out into that bracing Darlo air and clear your head son! Or have a pint…in one of those 30 odd pubs you told me about the other week. Actually have a pint in all of them. It’s your birthday…

Correct Score of the Week:

Some had a fabulous week…most popular score was Ipswich’s (the gift that keeps on giving) 1-1 draw with Brentford – 26 of us got that!

10 got the five point 3-1 at Craven Cottage

Ten more got got Leicester 3 Hull 1

And another 10 obviously guessed Spurs would beat Everton 3-2

Six nailed Hibs 3 Ayr 1

5 just knew St Mirren would score against Celtic for a 4-1 (how??)

Four got the correctly over-hyped 3-1 at Anfield – hmmpphhh!

Gary B, Stephen P & James L landed the thrilling Huddersfield 1 Newcastle 3

Gary B (again!) & Will O got off to a flyer on Friday thanks to Leeds’ one-three

Will O (again!) & Steve M saw their typo come good on the game at Swansea

Richard H wandered into Oxford 0 Bristol Rovers 2

However, this week’s best correct score goes to Jon Tofeili for his it-was-dull-but-i’ll-take-it inspired, Bristol City 0 Burton 0!

Bet of the Week:

So, the “system” spat out 3 draws that were the most popular among the 90 of you who entered predictions and guess what?!

This is getting silly now….

48% Blackburn V Wigan – surely this had 0-0 written all over it?

46% Accrington V Barnet – apparently the Stanley keeper had a blinder…

43% Huddersfield V Newcastle – Rafa marches on…

So, £0 goes on “Bet of the Week” slot 11th – shocking!

Table News:

All Mine“: Peter Morley moves up 1 place to go 3 points ahead of Jason M who in turn is three points ahead of Charlie H in third…

Only Charlie H crashed the Top Ten. And how!

Numb“: Ben McKeown slips six places to the bottom 2 points behind Neil C who in turn is 1 point off James C…

The Rip“: Highest climber this week, up a whopping 29 places is Will Oppong – honourable mentions go to Andy S (+19), Stephen P (+18), Rowan M (+19), Pete B (+27), George T (+19), Sam A (+19) and Mark S (+25)

Wandering Star“: Falling furthest this week, down a whopping 28 places is Predictz – dishonourable mentions go to Anders H (-17), Howard T (-21), Matt W (-15), Ric P (-19), John K (-16), Danny N (-16), Arthur H (-18) and Brett A (-15)

PAS Lucky 13 Spring ’17 Week 4 round up!

“Yeah, I did say “lolly ice” lah!”

When The Sun Hits”:  Twenty bods notched 30 points or more and there was a proper bun fight for top spot with 6 contesting the spoils of the week (including a certain 8 year old. Again!). So, you’d think nailing the frankly outrageous 3-2 League Cup win for Man Yoo would deffo seal a weekly win for Evertonian Andy F!

Well, you would wouldn’t you?

Actually, a John Stones-esque gaff of missing the Friday night predicting action, scuppered our Blue and left a gaping hole that was exploited in a clinical way by Ryan Graves 40 (7).

A bit like Ian Rush scoring of his shin from 3mm or the netting an inevitable derby Cup Final goal, Ryan stole in to take the £20 by virtue of ONE correct score and yet again left the Toffee side of Merseyside downbeat.

Cue scrambling around YouTube favourites for that  montage of Kevin Sheedy circa 1985 to salve the hurt & provide a glint of that golden sky from the long dark shadows…

Walk on indeed.

Machine Gun”: Jog on! If your name is James you may want to run and hide. Not Jamie though.

Nine got less than 15 points in a pretty dire week but propping up the rest were James Lee & James Challinor 12 (0)

Maybe like MCA said “…and if you try to dis me, I couldn’t give a damn”.

Or maybe not…

Correct Score of the Week:

A particularly yuck week…most popular score was Burnley’s 1-1 draw with Hull – 25 of us got that!

13 got the five point 2-2 that was Cardiff vs Fulham

Thirteen more got the correctly over-hyped 3-1 at Stamford Bridge

8 got the bore draw between Wigan & Nottm Forest

Julian F, Norman L & Paul v got the thrilling Inverness C T 2 Rangers 1

Stephen P, Danny A & Dave Crisp got Brighton’s 3-0 deconstruction of Reading

Nick H, Richard H & Ross B got Tottenham’s thrashing of Stoke City

Sam A, Stuart F & Andy F somehow guessed Man Utd 3 Southampton 2 (how?????)

Patricia F & Paul C made us all green by happening upon Wolves 1-2 Birmingham

However, this week’s best correct score, goes to, erm, no one! First time ever we’ve not had a unique prediction! Crazy times…

Bet of the Week:

So, the “system” spat out 3 draws that were the most popular among the 90 of you who entered predictions and guess what?!

We lost! Again! Rubbish!

49% Cardiff V Fulham – a Desmond decked!

49% Palace V QPR – teamwork Sam, teamwork…

47% Barnet V Cambridge – one shot on target, one goal…

So, £0 goes on “Bet of the Week” slot 65th – eeeeeek!

Table News:

Sing“: Kate Slee moves up 1 place to go 1 point ahead of Peter M who in turn is one point ahead of Frankie F in third (how is this happening???! She’s an 8 year old girl…)

Ryan G & Eddie O crashed the Top Ten.

Souvlaki Space Station“: Lee Ford slips seven places to the bottom 1 point behind Paul S who in turn is 1 point off James C…

Catch The Breeze“: Highest climber this week, up a whopping 33 places is Jazz Sian – honourable mentions go to Charlie H (+19), Andy F (+24), Dan P (+21), Paul H (+27), Stephen P (+29), Neil T (+23), Gareth M (+19), Debbie L (+17) and Anders H (+18)

Waves“: Falling furthest this week, down a whopping 31 places is David Goggin – dishonourable mentions go to Mark S (-19), Dan H (-22), Bry D (-27), Ian H (-25), Neil M (-23), George T (-22), Dave N (-18) and Ric P (-19)

PAS Lucky 13 Spring ’17 Week 3 round up!

“No. You’re The Boss…”

Black Magic”:  Does persistence pay off? Does practice make perfect? Does standing over someone with a massive stick to beat them with until they do it get results? Or does a bit of guidance make a difference? Maybe a bit of persuasion and explanation on why you do things helps? A colour coded “form guide” trigger the dropping of the penny? Or is it just random luck?

Who knows, but Francesca Fernandez 41 (9) became the youngest ever PAS week winner whisking away the £20 prize by astoundingly predicting 6 out of the last 8 fixtures correctly!

I’m gobsmacked given I only managed yet another mediocre score despite devising the said “form guide” for her to “follow & apply”.

The 13 others who scored 30+ points will be gutted too, but not as gutted as little Frankie will be when I break the news that the £20 “can now pay for her entry fee” – mwwahhh hahaha….

Little Me”: Actually my 25 points wasn’t a bad return on what turned out to be a horror week!

Five people couldn’t even manage 15+ points but at least they notched a correct score…

Sam Craig 11 (0) limped home last this week nicely bookending Frankie’s “girls on top” mantle. Awwwwwwww.

Correct Score of the Week:

Things are looking up…most popular score was Ipswich’s 1-1 draw with Leeds – 25 of us got that!

12 nailed Bradford 2 Bolton 2

7 got the correctly over-hyped 1-0 at The Den

4 got the two-two in Southend. The, erm, wrong end of Southend…

Mark J B , Arthur H & Richard H believed in Spurs. A 0-3 kinda belief…

Sam A, David G & Alex T got Wigan 0 PNE 0. Then sobbed a little bit as they thought of those poor souls who were actually there (not that many tbf)

Patricia F & Tony D somehow guessed Dundee 2 Rangers 1

However, this week’s best correct score, goes to Steve Meaton for his I-paid-up-just-in-time inspired, Hearts 1 Inverness C T 1!

Bet of the Week:

So, the “system” spat out 3 draws that were the most popular among the 90 of you who entered predictions and guess what?!

We lost! Again! Booooo!

68% Partick V Hamilton – Mr 2-0 was in there…

56% Birmingham V QPR – what is the Fonz doing???!

50% Bradford V Bolton – the only disappointment was it not being 0-0…

So, £0 goes on “Bet of the Week” slot 45th – eeeeeek!

Table News:

Take me and abuse me…”: Splat! Did you get under 15 points this week? Oh dear, shame on you! Fortunately my old dear Patricia Fernandez 10 (0) saved your blushes.

Will she bounce back next week?

Correct Score of the Week:

I don’t wanna talk about it…most popular score was Huddersfield’s 1-2 win at QPR – 31 of youse got that!

6 got the five point 2-2 between West Ham & West Brom

5 (inc. me!) obviously guessed Burnley would draw with Chelski

Julian F & Matt W nailed Sheff Wed 3 Birmingham 0

Gary B & Howard T made us all green by happening upon Derby  3-3 Bristol City (is that a Palace thang??!)

Neil C got St Johnstone 0 Partick 1

Martin S got the dull-all at the Riverside

However, this week’s best correct score, and new Best Correct Score of the Season, goes to Richard Hughes for his if-you-put-them-out-there-they-will-come-in inspired, Brighton 4 Burton Albion 1!

Bet of the Week:

So, the “system” spat out 3 draws that were the most popular among the 90 of you who entered predictions and guess what?!

We lost! Double done over…

58% PNE V Brentford – not even close…

53% Liverpool V Spurs – are Sp*rs the new Arsenal?

45% Dunfermline V Hamilton – the only disappointment was it not being 0-0…

So, £0 goes on “Bet of the Week” slot 33rd – ouch!

Table News:

I want to get rich quick…“: Kate Slee moves up 1 place to go 3 points ahead of Jerry S who in turn is two points ahead of Eddie O in third.

Loads crashed the Top Ten.

I once had pride, now that’s all behind…“: Ooops! Simon Linds goes down thirteen places to the bottom of the pile 4 points behind Ricki M who in turn is 1 correct score off Patricia F…

I want success and all that goes with it…“: Highest climber this week, up a whopping 54 places is Richard Hughes – honourable mentions go to Peter M (+51), Gary B (+37), Andy C (+48), Rich L (+37), Howard T (+39) and Danny N (+44)

Into your blood stream, it’s like a bad dream…“: Falling furthest this week, down a whopping 51 places is Patricia Fernandez – dishonourable mentions go to Paul V (-47), Rob C (-42), Debbie L (-47), Bry D (-43), Jazz S (-30) and Sam A (-31)

PAS Lucky 13 Spring ’17 Week 1 round up

Not a MVP…

The American”: It was that SuperBowl thingy on Sunday – did you watch it?

It was super exciting!

Rio’s cameo was effortless cool (nice shirt/cap combo too) and Chappers really is blossoming as a host isn’t he?!

And how good looking was that ex-pro on the panel? (my mate said she’d like to lick his cheekbone…is that a “thing”?)

Did you know it was the first final to go to “overtime”? And the greatest comeback of ALL TIME to boot!

And what about Tom Brady? He even got sacked a few times and still came out on top!!!

Wow! Love American football…

Anyway, one person with bleary eyes on Monday morning was Ian Harrison 34 (5) who no doubt whooped & hollered along with Lady Gaga (and that Country fella who didn’t even bother to dress up nice) as he celebrated winning the first £20 of the season. Ian has Blackburn’s late late winning goal to thank (more on that later) for taking him clear of an unlucky Kate S by 3 points…

Congrats Ian – not enough to get a SuperBowl ring but, y’know….

New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)”: Imagine being in a gang where you have to contribute in equal measures to ensure you’re not ostracised. Or at least not be laughed at.

Imagine the grief you would get if you didn’t pull your weight, by basically coming up short and not contributing.

Imagine getting off to the worst start possible when the usually whipping boy is soaring in stratospheres so high he’s probably breathless…

Imagine being Bren, I mean, Mark Seels 11 (0) facing the “Syndicate” humiliation this week?

Not all bad though as he’ll get a couple of pats on the back as he spared debutants Danny N & Paul S some newbie blushes…

Correct Score of the Week:

It’s gonna be one of those season’s again…most popular score was Hamilton’s 1-1 draw at with Kilmarnock– 23 of youse got that!

5 got very very annoying but patently obvious Chelsea 3 Arsenal 1

4 got the first “Desmond” of the season – Inverness v Dundee

David G, Predictz & Danny A got the five point 2-2 between Ipswich & Reading

Brett A, Sam A & Rob C got the 3 goal demolition of Champions Leicester

Alex R, John K & Ian H got the dull-all at Oakwell

Sam A got the bore draw between Rochdale & Bristol Rovers

However, this week’s best correct score goes to Howard Thomas for his they-can’t-be-worse-than-Palace inspired, Motherwell 0 Hearts 3!

Bet of the Week:

So, the “system” spat out 3 draws that were the most popular among the 90 of you who entered predictions and guess what?!

We lost! But, oh, the cruel cruel way it unfolded…

54% Blackburn V QPR – 90+1 mins winner for Blackburn!

50% Nottm Forest V Aston Villa – 90+3 mins winner for Forest!!!

49% Hamilton V Kilmarnock – the only disappointment was it not being 0-0…

PAS Lucky 13 Winter ’16 Final table round up!

2birch1bangerlong-1

Do something nice in ’17…

”: It was an intriguing battle at the top for pretty much the whole season given the sibling rivalry that fuelled the fire, but ultimately it was forgone conclusion as the weeks rolled on what with the relentless posting of high end scores by our new champion!

He started down in 26th, climbed to 14th, then up to 13th a week later –  the push into the Top Ten at number four was done by Week 4…

Once ensconced, it was at the summit all the way – only to drop in Week 7 to the hellish depths of third! (God, imagine…27th was a pipe dream for me!)

However, a recovery back up to the top slot was cemented in Week 9 and there he stayed. And how he stayed!

A phenomenal performance it has to said that came with a first – the 400 point barrier was breached!

Tony B’s long standing record points tally was smashed up (scant consolation T, but you still have the most correct scores!) and I think this new one is here forever!

So, doff your caps & give congrats to Tony Morris 415 (58) – he’s a winner!

Tony ended on a massive 35 point lead over another legend of the PAS game, Jazz Sian in second place (can Jazz stop Tony doing the double in the PAS Cup?). Be afraid people, the King is back and he finished 9 points ahead of newbie Ian Harrison in joint third place (great debut Ian – hut hut!) along with PAS Board member and, ahem, looker afterer of the back end, Dan Hogwood. Dan has been vetted, patted down and interrogated by Dave N and myself and, erm, we’re happy he didn’t nick anything…

Just four points further behind, Jamie Sellers & Jason Morris couldn’t be separated as they reflect the feel good buzz that’s abound in Brighton & Manchester at the moment (i’m sure Tony will go easy on you Jay?!) finishing in joint fourth spot with The Syndicate puppet master, Mark Seels scooping 7th place just another 2 points shy.

Have you talked your boys through your CL qualification Seelsy??!

Old skooler & leading lady Clare Templeton chipped in at 8th just one point behind, and only another point back, Lee Ford finished in ninth, cocking a snook at that “difficult second season” syndrome.

PAS old boy, Charlie Harris did see the forest from the trees and pip squeaked into 10th by the virtue of 2 correct scores (much to the chagrin of Norman L no doubt)

Laughing Gnome: Just eight places separated our record breaking champion from Gary Blackburne 243 (20) in Week 1! The Eagle never really recovered from there, slipping to 59th, 82nd and 92nd in consecutive weeks hitting bottom in Week 5.

A brief respite to the heady heights of 93rd (that’s second bottom to you & me) for three weeks couldn’t be sustained as a return to the basement slot from Week 9 meant my best mate takes the wooden spoon.

I cannot wait to present it to him (yes, this is the what it’s come to – schadenfreude!)

Ross B & Rob C made gallant efforts over the season to save Gary’s blushes but to no avail – good lads!

Now, will Palace go the same way Gee?!

Spot Prizers

OK, YOU have finished on these positions and you HAVE won those prizes!

Norman Lee on 11th, Jack Buxton on 12th, Tony Davenport/George Triantafillou on 17th, Simon Buxton/Paul Henshaw on 24th, Rich Lee on 27th, Rowan Marriott on 31st, Ric Pardoe on 33rd, Arthur Harrison/Kate Slee 39th, Andy Chesworth on 42nd, Chris Birch on 49th, Chris Dixon on 51st, Peter Morley/Simon Lindsay on 57th, Richard Hirst on 65th, Will Oppong on 66th, Sam Arora on 71st, Bill Pasterfield on 78th, Riten Patel/Mr 2-0 on 83rd, Paul Vinson on 89th, Ross Butcher on 92nd & Rob Currin on 93rd.

*** all prize money will be winging its way over this weekend (less your PAS Lucky 13 Spring ’17 entry fee) – promise! ***

PAS Champions League 2016/17 Group Stages

Matchday 6 games concluded the groups. Like, duh…

Lots of drama right to the very end as SIX groups were decided on “goal difference” – look away now if you don’t want to know your fate…

Anders H & Debbie L  might as well have given up the points so dire were the minus “goal difference” columns, Dave C was also in arrears and paid the price but you have to feel for Euro champ Howard T & Olly O who went out by a mere 4 goals deficit.

However the real heartbreak must lay with Scott Harrison who bowed out by just 2 goals in the tightest group of the lot!

So, congrats to the qualifiers, especially Danny Ashworth who amassed the biggest points haul and must fancy himself for a June appearance in the Final. One to be avoided then in the Last 16 draw eh?

Oh, the draw has been made and can be found here

PAS Cup 2017

Congratulations to Mark J Brown for sneaking the last spot (rules, entry fee details & scoresheets coming soon!)

The Top 32 have qualified and the First round proper will take place on w/e January 28th

The draw has been made and can be found here

Other little bits

Mark Seels picked up an additional £10 for getting the Best Weekly Score of the Season and another new record tally to boot –  64 (8)

Richard Hughes picked up £9 for getting the Best Correct Score of the Season by guessing – Inverness C T 3 Hearts 3.

And Another Thing

See that banner at the top of this update?

He may be a West ‘Am slaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag but he’s doing good things in 2017 – check this out and if you can, give him some support!

“As some of you may know, in July next year me and my little brother (I say little, he is a few inches taller than me, the b*stard) will be setting off from Goodwood and travelling 10,000 miles in an old Fiat van across the globe as part of the Mongol Rally. And we are hoping to raise money for charity along the way
 – full details here.
To get the fundraising off and running, I am going to host a charity quiz night at the Star on Wednesday 11th Jan – you can grab a space for your team here. Already confirmed are our special (celebratory) guest presenter and my 84 year old Nan plus some amazing raffle prizes. We really hope to make the most of this opportunity and raise as much as we can for two phenomenal organisations.
Also check out the sponsorship opportunities for our team on the Just Giving page. All amazing (if I do say so myself) and all cost significantly less than a Arsenal season ticket!
