“X Marks The Spot”: If you’re at rock bottom then there really is only one way to go (are you reading this Frankie?!) and go he certainly did this week! Martin Stafford 37 (7) was one of only 3 people to hit 30 points or more (even I got 27 points!) in a very tight week of wheat & chaff sorting. No doubt making time to study scores whilst in Lancaster bus depots or sitting idly at bus stops while your passengers fume has paid rich dividends in the form of £20 – just the ticket Martin!

“Wake Up Soon”: As mentioned it was pretty tightly packed score-wise this week but you still didn’t want to be lagging behind on a single figure return (even Frankie got 10 points!). So, Darren Banham, Neil Osborne & Simon Lindsay 9 (0), can you do a “Martin S” next week?! Well, you’d better…..

Correct Score of the Week: Good work people… most popular score was Wolves’ 1-1 draw with Ipswich – 18 of us got that!

8 sniffed out the upset of Celtic & five more did similar in regard to Liverpool.

Stuart F & Jack B lapped up the other semi-final shock! In Scotland.

Martin S & Matt W got the hammering meted out to Newcastle on their own ground. By Spurs!

Rob C & Debbie L got Bristol City 0 Coventry City 0 (!)

Martin S (again) pulled out a plum with Arsenal’s ineptness against Reading

Shashi A got Boro’s fine win over Norwich.

“The Sun Rising”: Proper good scrap for top spot this week with a whole host of contenders bunching in & around the high thirties/early forties mark. Ryan G edged away from the pack but unfortunatley for him his gamble on Man Utd & Ross County failing to win left the door open for Peter Morley 47 (10) to slip past and nab the weekly £20.

Well done Pierre, first person for a long long time (*I haven’t checked*) to land double figure correct scores in one week!

“Wake Up Soon”: Eeeewww! Not a good week to take your eye off the ball when everyone else is lording it up their fancy “over 20 points at least” tally. Mark J Brown 10 (1) probably didn’t even see the ball in the first place, but he has just got engaged so you can kinda understand it.

Hmmmmm…she’ll be telling him he doesn’t even like football next, throwing out his Everton jim-jams and taking away his online betting account – beware Markus!

Correct Score of the Week: You really were “at” the bread n butter scores this week… most popular score was West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Stoke – 28 of us got that!

“I Want To Dance”: Fifty. That’s, ahem, a big number innit (more about that on a later date..). You’d think securing over a half century of points would get you a weekly prize though. Well, you would. I would. Does Tony M? Nope. How about Jon T? Uh-uh. Nah, it was always gonna take a big number to win an international week and those old skoolers amongst us always shudder at the mere mention (isn’t funny how you always miss by just that *one* goal?). So, new boy Darren Banham 59 (8) unlocked the £20 this week no doubt justifying his decision to join our fold to boot! Congrats Darren, welcome to PAS – go tell your friends how easy it is to win money in our beautiful game…

“Hot Water”: Being a disciple of Mr 2-0 is always a dangerous liaison and so it proved for 8 of you this week. International week! How many 2-0s did you really think there would be??! Anyway, you can feel a bit better about that blunder cos Josh Hirst & Dave Crisp 15 (0) did even worse than you!

“Where It’s At”: You’d think securing EIGHT correct scores in a week would lock down the weekly prize wouldn’t you? Sam C certainly must have thought so & you can have a certain sympathy for her when it dawned that 39 points just wasn’t enough! Australian presence was once again prevalent in the shake up but this time going one better thanks to 2 nine pointers gifting Paul Carter 41 (6) the £20 booty! At last a Pommie victory Down Under – I wonder if this bodes well for the summer…

“Loser”: It was all too apparent what kind of day Saturday would turn out once my lift to Newcastle didn’t show & I had to scramble around to get on a train to Toon disrupting my measured, controlled approach to predicting scores in the process. Well, that’s my excuse anyway! 8(0) this week for yours truly even out under-performing my Swedish Gooner friend on 9 points. On his birthday too! Ahh well, if that kind of sacrifice is required to ensure yet another away win & the handsome one bagging more goals, we’ll happily finish bottom if it means we creep up & snatch the League title…

“A Sort Of Homecoming”: It looked like a proper bun fight for top prize going into Sunday with as many as seven contenders for the crown and at one point, we were considering for our first Antipodean weekly winner. Imagine! Strewth. But then Alex Taylor 46 (7) popped up clapping Everton who triptyched him all the way to the bank. £20 Alex – you’ve got Ross B to thank!

“Bad”: A new trend appears to be taking root this season. “Let’s see who can get the worst score possible, possibly the worst of all time. It’s probably more difficult than getting over 30 points but i’m gonna give it a damn good go anyway…” Yeah, that trend. This week features Martin Stafford 5 (0) just missing out on equalling Stuart F of yore…

“Huarache Lights”: Proper scrap for top spot this week with at least 17 players in with a shout going into the last game (yeah, THAT game on Monday hehehe…). As it turned out 5 of you amassed 30 points only to be leap-frogged by Jason Morris 32 (5) who got THAT game correct to take another £20 into the “syndicate” vaults. Brave move that Jason going against your own team for the sake of PAS, I mean, you wouldn’t find me doing that…… *quickly deletes any trace of Man U 2 Arsenal 1 from archives*

“Fool”: The scrap for worst score of the week as also keenly contested as Mr 2-0 (ha!) & 10 others conspired to get a measly 9 points! However, Stuart Fitzsimon 4 (0) produced the joint lowest score of all time (I think!) to take the proverbial biscuit. Shamed? Probably. Bothered? Doubt it. Arsenal won at Old Trafford on Monday. Did I mention that?

Correct Score of the Week: The uniques were prevalent again… most popular score was Tottenham’s 1-2 win at QPR – 28 of youse got that!

“Busy Earnin‘”: Right! I’m seriously considering changing this beautiful game into “Guess-A-Score” or “Don’t-Predict-A-Score” (where the challenge is to put scores so outrageous that the aim is to get the least points possible) as a worrying trend that started to creep in last season is gaining more ground as the weeks go by. What trend(s) is that I hear you ask? Inconsistency. Basic defending. Unsettled sides. Weakened sides. Stupid c*nts getting sent off…I could go on but i’m sure you get the picture & feel my (OUR!) pain. It really is getting to the point where league position and current form mean sweet eff all and what *should* happen is heavily outweighed by the complete opposite. Bah… I’ll cite our very own “Bet of Week” for proof – this week was the lowest in football history for games featuring both teams scoring! Bournemouth had scored for 187 games on the trot until we came along and plonked some money on them… I could cry but all my tears were shed on Wednesday night.

Anyway, suffice to say Mr 2-0 38 (6) won this week & dragged 6 lucky so ‘n’ so’s along with him – woe is me!

“Crumbler”: You know it’s a bad week when Frankie F is positively luxuriating mid-table with 18 points – you’ve really got something to be down about now Nick Hogwood & Steve Meaton 7 (0)

Correct Score of the Week: What can I say… most popular score was Stoke’s 1-0 win over Hull City – 18 of youse got that!

Only 4 managed that – so double gutting for Paul H & Anders H then….Which leaves just two. And they couldn’t be split in a horror week for predicting scores… £10 each to Clare Templeton & Pete Britton 35 (5) – congrats, you really are the wheat in a field of chaff!

Arcana is a site I am putting together for readers who want to know much more about classical music but without the pressures that can often bring. The idea is to dispense with boundaries and labels and just enjoy the music, which means I’m as open to reviewing techno albums as I am harpsichord recitals for the site!

Features include ‘The Borrowers’, which will look at pop songs using ideas from classical music or similar, ‘Screen Grab’, which looks at classical music on the big screen, and a big listening section where readers can access guides to music available on the BBC iPlayer or similar. There are also reviews of new recordings that are tailored both to newcomers and those who know a little about classical music.

The site is only 11 days old, so is still finding its feet – which is partly where you come in.
