L13 Spring 2011 : Week 5 Roundup

“And we used to think it was impossible”:
You may well know that Adele’s omnipresent album is named after her years, but it could easily be a collection of paeans dedicated to one PASer who has had to wait 21 years for his first weekly win. Yep, stand up Gary Blackburne 31 (5) your long wait is over mi amigo – and just to put a cherry on top, that injury time Norwich goal meant that you edged out a pair of Fernandezs’s (Fernandezi?) in the process! Congrats, £20 to spend a on a few plastic bottles you “lost” at QPR or a Doogie cup n saucer set (or whatever tat they’re passing off as merch in the Palace shop these days…)?
“After all that we’ve been through”:
Another fairly unpredictable week tripped up this pair – Howard Thomas & Vim Gupta 10(0) are probably not that bothered really as they haven’t lost *that* much ground overall… the lucky gits!
Correct Score of the Week:
Man it was desperate… – most popular score was St Mirren’s 1-1 with Aberdeen – 16 of you got that! 8 got the 3-1 at Carrow Road, 5 got Dundee U’s 2-2 v Motherwell and Gary B & Martin S got Stockport County’s (see, Andy C! County!) 0-0 against Burton Albion. Julian F & Will O got the 0-3 between Scunthorpe & Leicester and Mark J B (ever seen him and Chicarito in the same room?!) & Olly O got Derby Co 2 Swansea City 1. However, this week’s best correct score goes to Yours Truly for his inspired and fairly obvious in my eyes as Boro shipped five the week before, Portsmouth 0 Middlesbrough 0.
PAS Cup:
Results for the Quarter Finals attached – you may, like me, vomit at the sight of one particular points tally someone went through on… Losing QFs, consolation for your pain is some money!

Table News:

“Everything is going right”:
Gary Blackburne moves up 5 places to go 5 points ahead of Scott H who in turn is 1 point ahead of Neil O in third.
“It’s hard to remember how it felt before”:
Charlie Harris slips to the bottom of the pile 1 point behind Tony S who in turn is 12 letters of the alphabet behind Vim G!
“So far from where we’ve been”:
Highest climber this week, up a whopping 13 places is Ellen Fernandez – honourable mentions go to Pete B (+10), Pab (+8), Olly O (+7) and Rich L (+10).
“…all the obstacles”:
Falling furthest this week, down a whopping 13 places (again!) is Richard Hirst – dishonourable mentions go to Danny A (-10), Jon A (-10), Neil T (-10) and Sam A (-10)
PAS Champions League 2011/12:
In order to be invited to enter the PAS Champions League 2011/12, you will have to finish in the Top 32 after 13 weeks of play. Currently sneaking the last spot is… Watford’s own – Richard Lee.
And Another Thing:
We’ll stick with the Arsenal this week as it’s a kind of sick catharsis for me… Sam A (who I think is Sp*rs and obviously feeling like a pig in sh*t currently…) sent this over for my perusal –

Stats gurus Opta have kept detailed records for eight years and the Gunners have recorded a miserable new low. An Opta spokesman said: “There have been 981 Champions League games since 2003-04 and Arsenal are the first of 1,962 sides not to manage a shot of any form in a match since then.”

Cheers,
Pab

Spring Cup 2011 : Quarter Final Draw

PAS Cup QF draw was made by Frankie Fernandez (whilst simultaneously watching “Charlie Bear”…)

“Home” players don’t forget to play your JOKER and flag it up nice n clearly please!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Spring 2011 : Week 4 Roundup

“And the girls move from thrill to thrill”:
“You can’t win anything with kids…” Well, actually in PAS, especially this season it seems, you can! The U10s have done it again with Jessica Hirst 32(6) claiming this week’s £20 – well done Jess, I bet Josh’ll be gutted being the odd one out! Now, if Reading hadn’t scored that 5th goal, it would’ve been me – grrrrrrrr…..
“Forget that you are sick”:
Yet another unpredictable week scuppered most people’s scores (at the moment, this season has to be one of the lowest scoring ever…) more so, Tony Smith 9(0) who was left floundering and flapping….
Correct Score of the Week:
A few, a few… – most popular score was St Johnstone’s 1-1 with Hibs – 14 of us got that! 6 got the 0-0 at Pride Park, 8 got Chelski’s 1-3 v Blackpool and Mahli G & Mark J B got Norwich’s 1-1 against Preston N E. Will O got the 3-0 between West Ham & Stoke and Sam A got Nottm Forest 0 Hull City 1, Jessica H got Scunthorpe’s 1-0 victory over The Swans. However, this week’s best correct score goes to Howard Thomas for his inspired, Wycombe Wanderers 2 Aldershot Town 2.

Table News:

“He’s intellectual and he’s hot”:
Andy Chesworth moves up 4 places to go 1 point ahead of Scott H who in turn is 3 correct scores ahead of Neil O in third.
“Get on your skinny knees and pray”:
Stephen Street slips to the bottom of the pile 1 correct score behind Tony S who in turn is one point behind Charlie H & Jason M.
“I know the way”:
Highest climber this week, up a whopping 26 places is Jessica Hirst – honourable mentions go to Mark F (+9), Stuart L (+9), Jazz S (+12), Will O (+10) and Me (+14)
“On the tightrope walk”:
Falling furthest this week, down a whopping 13 places is Richard Hirst – dishonourable mentions go to Neil T (-9), Julian F (-10), Nick H (-8) and Tony S (-10)
PAS Champions League 2011/12:
In order to be invited to enter the PAS Champions League 2011/12, you will have to finish in the Top 32 after 13 weeks of play. Currently sneaking the last spot is… El Presidente – Moi!
And Another Thing:
Even with 13 men we wouldn’t have beaten those tippy-tappy freaks…

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Spring 2011 : Week 3 Roundup

“So rolling out my best…”:
Man, what a torrid week eh? I mean, it was so bad I dreamt we lost to a team from Birmingham in the last minute of a Cup Final…what? Oh. One fella who had a dream week was Dan Pelgrom 40 (6) who really put a marker down in a week where most players struggled to hit 20 points – well done Dan, you’ve got Fabio to thank for your £20…
“…you left the room”:
I fear the sibling rivalry banter will be fierce let alone the barracking the “syndicate” are probably handing out at this very moment – Jason Morris 7(0) is our biggest loser in a week of many losers…
Correct Score of the Week:
Not that bad considering – most popular score was Bristol City’s 2-0 win over Scunthorpe – 16 of you got that (including the disciples of Mr 2-0)! 6 got the 4-0 at Ibrox, Jamie T / Dan P / Mark F got Man Yoo’s 0-4 v Wigan and Martin S / Clare T / Mark S got Millwall’s 0-0 against Nottm Forest. Pete B & Neil O got the 0-3 between Middlesbro & QPR and Vim G & Neil O (again!) got (sob) Arsenal 1 Birmingham City 2. However, this week’s best correct score goes to Stuart Longworth for his inspired, albeit dour, Aberdeen 0 Hearts 0.

Table News:

“…told you how it’s going to be”:
Neil Osborne moves up 13 places to go 3 points ahead of Dan P who in turn is 4 points ahead of Mahli G in third.
“…clinging onto the ground”:
Charlie Harris stays bottom of the pile 4 points behind Danny B who in turn is one point behind Vim G & Paul H.
“I turn myself around”:
Highest climber this week, up a whopping 25 places is Dan Pelgrom – honourable mentions go to Dave N (+15), Neil M (+16), Martin S (+19) and Mr 2-0 (+15)
“…every time the plan spins”:
Falling furthest this week, down a whopping 19 places is Danny Ashworth – dishonourable mentions go to Matt G (-14), Jazz S (-17), Nick H (-14), Me (-14), Jason M (-18) and Paul H (-14)
PAS Champions League 2011/12:
In order to be invited to enter the PAS Champions League 2011/12, you will have to finish in the Top 32 after 13 weeks of play. Currently sneaking the last spot is… current champ – Shaun Backhouse.
And Another Thing:
Only a handful of you signed up to Pete Britton’s fantastic season long “Dream Team” competition (get signed up for next season kids – it’s only a £5!) so would have missed weekly insights such as this…

“Nearly didn’t make it tonight. I was on my way home from work today and this guy was in my way so I smashed him in the side of his head with my elbow. There was a cop standing on the corner but luckily for me he didn’t see the incident. Unluckily for me, the whole thing got caught on CCTV. So, I was marched off to the station. The Chief Inspector looked at the CCTV footage and decided that yes, I had clearly deliberately smashed this guy in the side of the head. However, unbelievably, as there was a policeman in the vicinity, I was let off on a technicality. Even though he clearly didn’t see it. As I said, unbelievable. If you didn’t know better you’d think that my dad was best mates with either the copper or the chief of police (or both) … No, but seriously folks – how can Rooney be allowed to get away with that?! Clattenburg is a blatant liar – he clearly didn’t see the incident – that’s why he shrugged his shoulders at the time. And the FA refuse to stand up to Ferguson and United … again. Spleen vented… for now.”

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Spring 2011 : Week 2 Roundup

“…in seas where schools of fools be first”:
Looks like thirty six points is very popular tally this season! Last week it won one little lad forty quid but alas it only wins you £10 this week as both Danny Ashworth & Howard Thomas 36 (6) somehow managed to match the exact winning score from Week 1…
“day by day sigh even worse’”:
Oh dear! The role of embarrassing dad has come quickly to Vim Gupta 13 (1) as he limps in last in quite a tight week to be fair!
Correct Score of the Week:
Another round of fine predicting – most popular score was Forest’s 2-1 win over Cardiff – 14 of you got that! 6 got the 3-0 at St Andrews, 7 got Leeds’s 2-2 v Norwich and 12 got Swansea’s 3-0 against Doncaster. Mahli G / Mark F / Jamie S got the 1-1 between PNE & QPR and Dan P / Dave C / Scott H got Scunthorpe 0 Derby 0. Simon Linds / Jazz S / Rob C got Man City 5 Notts County 0 and Rob C (again!) / Olly O got Stoke City 3 Brighton 0. However, this week’s best correct score goes to Jessica Hirst for her very brave Fulham 0 Bolton 1.

Table News:

“I just can’t help believing”:
Howard Thomas moves up 14 places to go 3 points ahead of Matt G who in turn is 1 point ahead of Ben H in third.
“…though believing sees me cursed”:
Ooops! Charlie Harris goes down 2 places to the bottom of the pile one correct score behind Jon T.
“Believing time does reimburse”:
Highest climber this week, up a whopping 31 places is Danny Ashworth – honourable mentions go to Ben H (+20), Simon Lindq (+23) and Jason M (+21)
“Suffer all we are receiving”:
Falling furthest this week, down a whopping 23 places is Mark J Brown – dishonourable mentions go to Gareth M (-20), Dave N (-21) and Stephen S (-16)
PAS Champions League 2011/12:
In order to be invited to enter the PAS Champions League 2011/12 , you will have to finish in the Top 32 after 13 weeks of play. Currently sneaking the last spot is… El Presidente – me!
And Another Thing:
Not paid yet?! Get your payment across as soon as please!

Gonna be away in future weeks? Well, you’ll be able to find scoresheets up to and including Week 6 from this site very soon!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Spring 2011 : Week 1 Roundup

“Your ship to send off”:
We have a debutant winning in his first week! Mahli Gupta 36(6) stole in to take the £40 rollover weekly prize just beating Richard H to the post. Well done Mahli, you’re under 1 year old and you’ve won a PAS week already! (Hmmmm, I wonder if granddad will take a fee….)
“I’d rescue you now”:
So, in keeping with the young ’uns making the headlines, our second youngest player, Jessica Hirst 10 (0) might want to rope in of her grandparents in for help next week…
Correct Score of the Week:
Not many correct score knocking about but 16 of you got Barnsley 1 Ipswich 1 making it the most popular correct score this week – 4 of us got the stalemate at Ewood and 13 got the 1-3 victory for Celtic at Dundee Utd. However, this week’s best correct score and therefore best correct of the season so far, goes to Martin Stafford for his inspired (albeit, spiteful) Liverpool 1 Wigan 1.
Bet of the Week:
Has been “rested” this season due to spectacularly bad performances – if any of you would like to impart any betting nous and give us a tip, please do at your leisure. We won’t berate you if they fail… promise!
Table News:
Week 1 table to follow once I’ve worked out the prize money splits! Actually, I’ll send one anyway but it will look a threadbare…
PAS Champions League 2011/12:
In order to be invited to enter the PAS Champions League 2011/12 you will have to finish in the Top 32 after 13 weeks of play. Currently sneaking the last spot is… the current champ, Shaun Backhouse.
And Another Thing:
Lots of payments have come in – thanks! Anyone who hasn’t got round to it, please do as soon as possible – do’t make me chase you!

Cheers,
Pab
