L13 Winter 2008 : Week 2

I Want Candy :
Pretty low standard for a winning score but it won’t mean a thing to Greg Edwards 31 (3) cos he’s snagged the £20 this week. I say snagged, he actually still owes me £2.50 the thieving (sort’ve) Scouse!
I Want Crisps :
Meanwhile, across the Pennines Stewart Lee 9 (0) may well be rueful of submitting his scores ultra early without a glance at current form, league tables, thinking Leeds (Leeds Leeds) will win every week!
Correct Score of the Week :
14(!) got Reading 3 Burnley 1, 8 got Celtic 4 Hamilton 0, Seb A / Mark Sh / Gareth M / Dave T got the score-we-shall-never-mention at the Stadium of Light, Lisa G got the score-we’ll mention-every-week at White Hart Lane, Stephen P got Sheff U’s 3-0 win over Bristol C and Greg E got a luvverly 9 pointer with Coventry 4 Southampton 1. But, with a talent she obviously got from her dad (actually, that’s a lie – it’s her nan feeding her the scores), Francesca Fernandez got this week’s and the best so far, Correct Score of the Week with Man City 2 Liverpool 3
Bet of the Week:
In time honoured tradition we fall at the first hurdle as our Week 1 “expert” crashed and burned with his two tiered selection. So, £5 down, we look to Greg E to get us back in the black!
Table:
All prize money has be added now. Apologies for missing people off etc. but I think we’ve got everyone on there now! Please let me know if you’re not on there (document saving bugs this end!)
Money!:
Right, if your name is here, you’ve got til Friday October 24th to settle up or face excommunication, tar and feathering and general ridicule from your peers! (drum roll please) Martin Stafford (£2.50) / Steve Tagger / Mark J Brown (shall I send you a Paypal request?) / Dave Crisp / Tim Birtwisle / Scott Angus / Matt Davies / Greg Edwards (£2.50) / Neil Birchall / Michael Green / Richard Lee / Gareth Morgan / Matt Worsfold / Wayne Connolly / Mark Shakespeare / Stephen Peaston / Dan Rayner / Donna Edmead / Andrew Chesworth / Dave Tagger / Michelle Fernandez / Jamie Tofeili. Don’t let me down people!
Other Stuff:
If a scoresheet is sent out and the first match is say, 12.45, any entries received from 12.46 onwards will have said game as “2-0” but all other scores are still valid. The same works if you miss the 3pm kick offs – you’ll get “2-0” for all those missed but your scores still count for the late kick offs and the Sunday/Monday games. It’s worth sending your scores in if their late as Greg E didn’t submit a scoresheet until 5pm this week – and he won! Oh, and it’s the time the email is RECEIVED irrespective of when it’s sent so don’t leave it too late eh?
And Another Thing:
We love City Hull again this week as much as the new TV On The Radio album!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 2 BotW

Bet of the Week comes from Week 1 winner Martin Stafford – a lot of thought gone into this!

In these difficult economic times it may be better to pursue shorter prices and if it were my last fiver, I’d commit Wigan heresy and back Saint Helens in the rugby league grand final, there is poor value on offer though a 8.5 point handicap will only give 6/4 in a two horse race…

However in the spirit of PAS, its always better to go for a football accumulator…

Landing 3 draws will pay you approx 30/1 so split the fiver in a on an optimistic acca

Sunday has plenty of draws: Chelsea v Villa, Everton v Newcastle and Man City v Liverpool all to draw £2.50

You could always use the other £2.50 to then cover the 3 doubles in some face saving cover bet or because someone has to win at chelsea sooner or later chase value by putting the other £2.50 on Villa to win at chelsea (11/2 and probably longer on betfair)

(obviously a Chelsea win would ruin this so if you want to play safe back Saints on saturday in the M62 rugby grand final)

Confused? Play safe? Never!

I’ll break it down and make it simple for you (and edit the choices!)

  • £2.50 on St Helen’s to win with a 8.5 point handicap @ 6/4
  • £2.50 on Chelsea / Everton / Man City draw treble @ 30/1

Follow it if you dare!

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£5

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 1

Tigers! Tigers! :
In a mixed week for Wiganers (lose the rugby / win in the football / pies a bit too hot for the clement weather…) local boy Martin Stafford 40(7) was the on the upbeat side taking the first weekly prize of £20 AND the first weekly win of the new regime (did you get a 0-0?!). Well done Martin, I think a trip to your local DVD emporium to buy the last season of The Wire is on the cards yeah?! It’s brilliant, just wait til you see what happens to M–snip!
Toon! Toon! :
It’s always been girls allowed in PAS but debutant Louise Briggs & veteran Clare Nevin 10(0) really let the side down with this weeks worst score. Apparantly Louise is sooooo embarassed she’s hopped off to Oz
Correct Score of the Week :
Loads of you got the old skool 7 pointer that is now a 5 pointer called Rangers, 5 got Wigan beating the “team that will ruin football forever with their silly money”, amazingly, Matt W / Danielle F / Dave C / Anthony L all got Celtic’s 9 pointer 3-2, cunningly, Nick H / Neil T / Martin S / Lisa G got the only new 8 pointer that is 0-0 (Barnsley – Norwich) and Mark McD got 5 points for his Burnley 3 PNE 1. However, this weeks best score was Will Oppong’s Reading 4 Swansea 0. Eight lovely points my Gooner bruvver!
Bet of the Week:
For all you newbies, the Weekly winner gets a chance to lenfd you his or her expertise and guide you where to place a fiver when you visit the bookies at the weekend (everybody does that right?!). The bet can be on absolutely anything (we’ve F1 bets before, a few gee gees and plenty of madcap accumulators) and the idea is for us all to follow the advice and win some money! Over the years we’re about even all told so let’s hope Martin S gets us off to a flyer! The BotW will be maied round with the last reiminder and my scores on a Friday…
Table:
Week 1 is attached – all prize money will be added on once I have the all players paid up and confirmed…which leads nicely to…
Money!:
If you’ve paid up – thanks! If you haven’t – as soon as please! (contact me for payment details)
Other Stuff:
Spot the good and bad in this email? “Can you put me down for 4-0 for utd, arsenal and chelsea. 1-1 for liverpool. celtic and rangers 3-0 Newcastle beaten 0-1 and the rest 3-0” That’s right! Good that the player mailed me a few scores cos they didn’t have time and bad asking for 3-0 for “the rest”. If you cant/don’t complete all your scores you can ONLY have 2-0 as a “blanket” score! Got that? Good. We have our analysts poring tirelessly over the entries weeding out any spoilers, so don’t do it kids – just say no! I In this case, 2-0 gave the player a better score anyway!

And Another Thing: did you get beaten by a 12 week old???!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Pre Season

We’ve had a flurry of interested punters, the scoresheets are being processed, the huge-ever-pulsating-scoring-matrix-that-makes-tells-us-the-weekly-winner-and-compiles-the-league-table has been fired up by the coal monkeys and we’re almost ready to confiem this season’s runners and riders…involved yet? C’mon, you know you wanna….

We start on weekend 27th/28th September 2008!

If you’re a newcomer (hola!) or a regular (welcome back!), check out the “Rules” on www.pabspace.co.uk – they tell you all you need to know & hopefully it will all make sense!

Send this on to anyone you know who might be interested and get them to mail me so I can add them to the list – the more, the merrier, the more money in the kitty to be won!

P-A-S rocks! You get to show off how good you are at guessign scores! There’s a end of year poll where you get to show off how cool your music taste is! You get to show off how much money you take off the bookies in the “Bet of the Week” feature! Basically, it’s showing off…

Don’t take my word for it, check these testimonials…

  • “I play P-A-S and I’m not mental” – K Charters
  • “I put Palace to win every game. Sometimes they do. It’s all about the long game” – G Blackburn
  • “I was sooooo excited and giddy about playing the legendary PAS I wet myself…” – L Gray
  • “I know about football and I know PAS not only enhances your judgement for fixed odds betting it can be a considerable source of income in itself” – J Sain
  • “I’m a girl and even I won a weekly prize – so two fingers up to you tw*tty boys who think you know everything!” – M Webster
  • “I tried to play the system by putting in 3-1 blanket scores every week. I got found out and banned. Now I’m in jail. Don’t do it kids..” B Hannan
  • “I just threw dice for my scores and finished bottom – I don’t recommend this” – A Bennet-Dawson
  • “F*ck the football, why was Mark Ronson in the Top 5 albums last year?!” – S Morrissey
  • “I used to play religiously every season and now I live in Australia!” – J Fonas
  • “Don’t let your heart rule your head – Rangers always win 3-0 – it’s a nailed on 7 pointer” – C O’McGoldrick
  • “I give my winnings to homeless smackheads” – Mr. 2-0

Anyway… The all leagues have kicked off, so time to start honing those footie predicting skills, watching every game on telly, swotting up on the reports in the papers, poring over the league tables and ignoring every single “tip of the week” from the pro punters – enjoy!

I’ll BE SENDING THIS INVITE OUT A FEW MORE TIMES AND THEN I’ll LEAVE YOU ALONE UNTIL NEXT YEAR… PROMISE!

Cheers,
Pab

PS – remember, getting involved will seriously change your Saturday afternoons for 13 weeks and Geoff Stelling will cheer and dismay you in equal measures! Go on, you know you want to… plus, it’s a real “water cooler” moment on a Monday morning at work!

Euro 2008 : Finals (Complete)

Hola!

Well that was good wasn’t it?!

Congrats to our winners – Jon Tofeili 47 (9 + 1) was the deserved winner just keeping out Ciaran McG 45 (4 + 10). Jon A 32 (4 + 7) was top of the chasing pack in 3rd place and Dave N 31 (2 +12) has Fernando Torres to thank for securing him the last prize spot as his goal last night gave him the edge over Martin S who nearly completed a remarkable comeback from spending most of the month in the wooden spoon slot. Speaking of which, Tim Birtwisle 16 (0 + 4) is now the not-so-proud owner (but at least you get £5 back mate – you paid me too much!)

Neil M, Mr 2-0 and Matt W all landed in the “spot prize” slot – as Mr 2-0 doesn’t exist I will donate “his” winnings to the first homeless person I see once I’ve been to the bank later (we care a lot!)

Mark F has the consolation of having a home and now £5 for his “best correct score of the tournament” (Croatia 2 Germany 1).

Thanks for taking part – all winners’ prize money will be whizzed over asap – we start all over again in September, your job now is to go and recruit as many new players as possible!

Watch out for some rule changes as we enter our 20 year anniversary here at PAS, also, we’re very close to a “online” entry scoresheet, so that may be available too. (I’ll be asking a few of you to site test in August if Dave N’s plans all come together)

Cheers, enjoy the summer! I will be in touch…
Pab.

Euro 2008 : Semi Finals (Complete)

Ahhh, the magic of Predict-a-Score!

Martin S had all but given up and resigned himself to the wooden spoon 4 games ago and now he’s in the prize money positions – Ciaran McG had settled for second at best, now he’s giving a Jon T a real run for the title!

Why? Both of the lucky gits benefited from Lahm’s last minute winner over the robbed Turks – however, as they both got the score right they cancelled each other out, so as we go into the final game Mark F still has the “Best Correct Score of the Tournament”

Final scoresheet back to me by 19.44 on Sunday please

Cheers!
Birthday Pab (43 – jeez!)

Euro 2008 : Quarter Finals (Complete) – After 28 Games

Still all to play for – even Martin S can get in the prize frame with 3 games to go!

Looks like Jon T will be crowned Euro champion bar some freaky high scores and Tim B will need to pull a correct score out of the bag to avoid the wooden spoon.

Semi final scoresheets back to me by Wednesday 25th June by 19.44

Cheers!
Pab.

Euro 2008 : Group Stage – After 22 Games

Hola!

2 games to go in the Group stage and it looks like Jon Tofeili has all but tied up the Euro crown – only a spectacular loss of form or some outrageous late form from the rest will stop him.or loads of goals from players with a team left in the tournament (come on Turkey!).

All to play for in the other prize positions though as literally everyone bar the bottom three can still realistically make it – Matt Davies is sitting pretty in third no doubt with a wry smile on his smug little face as his “tactical decision to rely on Italy and Mr 2-0 putting him up there” has indeed, put him up there.

Unreserved apologies to Martin Stafford as he correctly pointed out this won’t be his third spoon in a row but in fact his second – the special golden commemorative outsize piece of cutlery has gone back into storage ready to come out for the end of PAS L13W08 then.

Attached is the Quarter Final scoresheet – back to me by 19.44 TOMORROW please – I’ve left Holland to play either Sweden or Russia – please delete accordingly.

Cheers!
Pab.

Euro 2008 : Group Stage – After 20 Games

Hola!

20 games in, we enter the final third…

Jon T doesn’t need bonus goals as cuts an impressive swathe at the top – a 7 player peleton is scrapping for the rest of the prize positions whilst at the bottom Martin S is still on course for an unprecedented 3 wooden spoons in a row…

Cheers!
Pab.

Euro 2008 : Pre-Season

22 entrants for this years elite competition – as you know the Top 16 were all to be entered into a draw for a finalist team to earn them bonus points for every goal they score in the tournament.

Mrs F conducted the draw despite being heavily pregnant and needing a wee every 4 minutes – as always, he who organises the draw gets the last team in the hat. Boo!

The draw as it happened…

  1. Clare Nevin – Croatia
  2. Nick Hogwood – Austria
  3. Tim Birtwisle – Czech Republic
  4. Tony Bowley – Sweden
  5. Jon Allin – Portugal
  6. Ciaran McGoldrick – Germany
  7. Gareth Morgan – Romania
  8. Danny Ashworth – Greece
  9. Matt Davies – Italy
  10. Jon Tofeili – Poland
  11. Will Oppong – Switzerland
  12. Mark Fawke – France
  13. Neil Meredith – Holland
  14. Dave Nicklin – Spain
  15. Ben Hogwood – Russia
  16. Pab – Turkey

PAS Euro 2008 will commence on Saturday June 7th @ 6pm

Top 32 we leave you here – I will be in touch in September about Lucky 13 Winter 2008.

Top 16 – we continue on the next email.

Salud!
Pab.
