L13 Winter 2008 : Week 4 Roundup

“The Promise”:
He didn’t break the 61 point benchmark but Richard Hirst 59 (8) will still be made up to collect the £20 weekly prize and make a big dent in the table. Tricky stuff!
The Threat:
Woe is a Wiganer! Robbed by the Scousers (surely you don’t take from your own?!) on Saturday, Neil Birchall 12 (0) got a double whammy of grief by finishing last this week. What will your new nephew think…
Correct Score of the Week:
And there was me thinking 0-0s would be really hard to predict…
15 got Arsenal 3 Everton 1, 19 got Man Utd 4 WBA 0 (happy stag do Neil T!), 9 got Hull’s 1-0 and 9 got Stoke’s 2-1 (is this really a surprise anymore?), 5 got the Toon’s and the Tractor Boy’s “Desmond”, 11(!!) got Doncaster 0 Blackpool 0 and Bolton 0 Blackburn 0, 8 got the stalemate at Fulham and 5 got Villa’s 0-0 with Pompey. Jason M / Wayne C / Rich L all got the Eagles 3-0 win and Anthony Y & Anders H got the travesty at Anfield. The best correct score has to be unique, so no winner this week…
Bet of the Week:
Dave N gave us a gallant run for our money but Franchise FC let us down with a 2-2 draw – so, we go into Week 5 £5.60 down, over to Richard H to lead us to salvation…
Table News:
Full comprehensive table attached – I think we’ve got it right this week!
Tip Top:
He left a consortium to go it alone and so far so good for Richard Hirst who finds himself top of the pile with a 3 point lead from fellow ex-consort Jason M. Jazz S makes an ominous move into 3rd – be afraid!
Swing Low:
As hapless as his team but with 73 more points, Michael Green finds himself 6 points adrift of Jamie T – Glyn W and Donna E are falling fast to join them!
Highest Climber:
I am ace! Up 37 places to 17th – check it! Honourable mentions for John W (+22), Francesca F (+21 – what a girl!), Olly O/ Tim B / Richard H (+17)
Biggest Faller:
Not so ace this week is Dennis McDowell down 23 places to 37th – dishonourable mentions for Neil B / Mr 2-0 (ha ha!) / Dan Clements (-22), Neil M (-21) and Matt D (-20)
Spot Prizers:
OK, if you finish on these positions at the end of Week 13, you win the prize!
For now, Rich L is at 11th (+13), Stephen S is at 12th (-6), i’m on 17th (+37), Danny A is at 27th (-12), Dave C is at 31st(-18), Tim B is at 33rd(+17), Will O is at 42nd(-9), Mark McD is at 52nd(+8), Anthony L is at 57th(-6), Anthony Y is where you wanna be if you’re a loser, on 65th(+8) and Jamie T is at 72nd(-2)
PAS Cup 2009:
to qualify for invitation to the PAS Cup 2009 you will have to finish here at the end of Week 13 – current resident is Olly O (+17)
Money!:
If your name is here, you’ve got a few days left to sort it or you’re facing expulsion from this season’s competition (some of you have been in touch so make sure you get yer cash in as promised!) (drum roll please…)
Martin Stafford (£2.50) / Steve Tagger / Mark J Brown (shall I send you a Paypal request?) / Tim Birtwisle / Dave McSherry / Matt Davies / Neil Birchall / Stephen Peaston / Dan Rayner / Dave Tagger / Jamie Tofeili
Other Stuff:
Nowt – just need your money in non-payers!!
And Another Thing:
Win a trophy or Sp*rs go down? Hmmmmm….

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 4 Update…

Dave N must have thought scoring 61 points last week had definitely secured the £15 prize for “best score of the season”, however, with one game to go, that total is in danger of being surpassed… Richard Hirst 59 (8) needs a Citeh 0-2 win tonight and he’ll be sitting pretty on 63 points – and yeah, he is the Week 4 winner!

Not far behind (well, I say not far…) is yours truly who seems to be on some kind of ESP trip with one of our throng as amazingly, we had EXACTLY the same scores for 21 out 30 games! Hold on. What? His scores came in after mine were sent out? Oh. Maybe I should be flattered then….

Full update tomorrow including a proper table!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 4 BotW

Bet of the week comes from Week 3 winner Dave N – over to you Dave –

I have no idea how I managed a 61pt International week… probably something to do with “borrowing” the Home/Draw/Win predictions from Glen Bevis out of The Sun – then tweaking his score predictions! Don’t cheat kids! Although in all fairness he only got a 43pt week, so he’s crap really.

Anyway, I’ll try to keep BotW simple, six games accumulator on these teams to win:

Man Utd, Liverpool, Rangers, Shrewsbury, MK Dons, Southend

Not sure what the odds are on those, working in the Ministry of Truth with restricted Internet access means I’ll be dragged off to Room 101 sharpish if I even think of browsing a gambling site…

I can tell you two things: Rangers have top trumped the Scousers black armband obsession by actually calling off a game as a mark of respect for the Dundee U chairman/top geezer who died recently (thanks for the heads up Sephen S – please note that game will now be void on your scoresheets). The (now) 5 team acca tots up as 11.5/1 – get on!

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£5.60

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 3

Omar Little:
Very high calibre of scores posted this week – even bods as far down as 40th could’ve won it in a normal week – eek! However, he led at the break, and he kept up the pressure to pull away from Sean Peers, Jason Morris and John McSherry (chin up boys!) – big up my fellow board member and inventor of the PAS scoring matrix, (does this sound a bit suss?) Dave Nicklin 61 (10). Dave will be donating his £20 to first foreigner willing to buy out Mike Ashley at the Toon!
Stuart Little :
So if you we’re down with the detritus you really will feel the pain this week – no more so than my good friend Michael Green 21 (1). Unfortunately Michael is disabled when it comes to football but I’m sure he’ll take heart that it can only get better as they say down the Lane!
Correct Score of the Week :
Oh man! This is where I really feel bad! 24 of you got Denmark, 14 Spain, 12 Greece, 9 Belarus – England, 6 the lovely 0-0 in the Ukraine, 5 the even lovelier 0-0 in Bulgaria on Saturday, 5 Romania – France and 5 both San Marino’s games. Paul H / Matt G / Louise B / John McS got Lux 1 – Israel 3, Tony B / Olly O / Mark McD got Serbia 3 Lith 0 and Stewart L & Jon A have Chris Ilummox to thank for Scotland 0 Norway 0. Correct score of the week though goes to Karl Chartres for his Faroe Islands 1 Austria!
Bet of the Week:
Did you get on? Greg E correctly gave us a 4/5 accumulator meaning we are 60p shy of breaking even – well done Greggy boy! Up next is serial accumulator master Dave N who will try to mirror his 15/1 winner from last year (or was it the year before that?)
Table:
Week 3 is attached – full table update next week as we’ve had a very late comer join the fray and he threw my calculations out!
Money!:
Still a few stragglers – if your name is here, you’ve got til Friday October 24th to settle up or face excommunication, tar and feathering and general ridicule from your peers!(drum roll please)Martin Stafford (£2.50) / Steve Tagger / Mark J Brown (shall I send you a Paypal request?) / Dave Crisp / Tim Birtwisle / Dave McSherry / Matt Davies / Neil Birchall / Stephen Peaston / Dan Rayner / Dave Tagger / Jamie Tofeili. Come on!!! Don’t let me down and drop out now people!
Other Stuff:
Spotter prize to Ben H for pointing out the, ahem, deliberate misspelling of Norn Ireland’s conquerors on Saturday. You can’t sniff at talent like that! Please aim to send your scoresheets back in Word doc as we had a bit of mare with one punters scores this week due to “format” issues in the matrix – safe to say we picked it up, amended and Dave N has provided a fix. If you think your score has been calculated wrong please shout up we need to kill any bugs there may be lurking out there – we rarely wrong mind! Congrats to Steve Tagger and Martin Stafford who each had a safe delivery of a future PASer this week. Bless!
And Another Thing:
I hate Setanta.

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 3 Update…

As an PAS old-timer pointed out, “International Week” is feast or famine and we’ve got a potential best weekly total ever if Dave Nicklin’s banquet of a score carries on where he’s left off!
Dave is currently leading the way with 52 (9) – Jason M 44 (7), Sean P 42 (6) & Danny A 40 (6) are all hoping his table gets cleared…
Down the other end amongst the beggars, a Spurs fan, a Man City fan & a QPR fan join me, my daughter and my niece fighting over the scraps.
On a happier note though, I followed Greg E’s advice and near enough doubled my money with the BotW – yay!
Full result on Wednesday / Thursday morning.

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 3 BotW

Bet of the Week comes from Greg Edwards – he’s been sensible (he hasn’t bet on Wales for a start) and if this little lot comes in we’ll only be 60p in the red – I like it Greg, I like it…

5 Homes: Denmark, England Holland, Greece and Finland.

£5 on that with Paddy Power will return £9.44

Cheers
Pab

Result: WIN! -£0.60

PS – did you see Scott Angus on Soccer AM this morning? Good skills!

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 2

I Want Candy :
Pretty low standard for a winning score but it won’t mean a thing to Greg Edwards 31 (3) cos he’s snagged the £20 this week. I say snagged, he actually still owes me £2.50 the thieving (sort’ve) Scouse!
I Want Crisps :
Meanwhile, across the Pennines Stewart Lee 9 (0) may well be rueful of submitting his scores ultra early without a glance at current form, league tables, thinking Leeds (Leeds Leeds) will win every week!
Correct Score of the Week :
14(!) got Reading 3 Burnley 1, 8 got Celtic 4 Hamilton 0, Seb A / Mark Sh / Gareth M / Dave T got the score-we-shall-never-mention at the Stadium of Light, Lisa G got the score-we’ll mention-every-week at White Hart Lane, Stephen P got Sheff U’s 3-0 win over Bristol C and Greg E got a luvverly 9 pointer with Coventry 4 Southampton 1. But, with a talent she obviously got from her dad (actually, that’s a lie – it’s her nan feeding her the scores), Francesca Fernandez got this week’s and the best so far, Correct Score of the Week with Man City 2 Liverpool 3
Bet of the Week:
In time honoured tradition we fall at the first hurdle as our Week 1 “expert” crashed and burned with his two tiered selection. So, £5 down, we look to Greg E to get us back in the black!
Table:
All prize money has be added now. Apologies for missing people off etc. but I think we’ve got everyone on there now! Please let me know if you’re not on there (document saving bugs this end!)
Money!:
Right, if your name is here, you’ve got til Friday October 24th to settle up or face excommunication, tar and feathering and general ridicule from your peers! (drum roll please) Martin Stafford (£2.50) / Steve Tagger / Mark J Brown (shall I send you a Paypal request?) / Dave Crisp / Tim Birtwisle / Scott Angus / Matt Davies / Greg Edwards (£2.50) / Neil Birchall / Michael Green / Richard Lee / Gareth Morgan / Matt Worsfold / Wayne Connolly / Mark Shakespeare / Stephen Peaston / Dan Rayner / Donna Edmead / Andrew Chesworth / Dave Tagger / Michelle Fernandez / Jamie Tofeili. Don’t let me down people!
Other Stuff:
If a scoresheet is sent out and the first match is say, 12.45, any entries received from 12.46 onwards will have said game as “2-0” but all other scores are still valid. The same works if you miss the 3pm kick offs – you’ll get “2-0” for all those missed but your scores still count for the late kick offs and the Sunday/Monday games. It’s worth sending your scores in if their late as Greg E didn’t submit a scoresheet until 5pm this week – and he won! Oh, and it’s the time the email is RECEIVED irrespective of when it’s sent so don’t leave it too late eh?
And Another Thing:
We love City Hull again this week as much as the new TV On The Radio album!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 2 BotW

Bet of the Week comes from Week 1 winner Martin Stafford – a lot of thought gone into this!

In these difficult economic times it may be better to pursue shorter prices and if it were my last fiver, I’d commit Wigan heresy and back Saint Helens in the rugby league grand final, there is poor value on offer though a 8.5 point handicap will only give 6/4 in a two horse race…

However in the spirit of PAS, its always better to go for a football accumulator…

Landing 3 draws will pay you approx 30/1 so split the fiver in a on an optimistic acca

Sunday has plenty of draws: Chelsea v Villa, Everton v Newcastle and Man City v Liverpool all to draw £2.50

You could always use the other £2.50 to then cover the 3 doubles in some face saving cover bet or because someone has to win at chelsea sooner or later chase value by putting the other £2.50 on Villa to win at chelsea (11/2 and probably longer on betfair)

(obviously a Chelsea win would ruin this so if you want to play safe back Saints on saturday in the M62 rugby grand final)

Confused? Play safe? Never!

I’ll break it down and make it simple for you (and edit the choices!)

  • £2.50 on St Helen’s to win with a 8.5 point handicap @ 6/4
  • £2.50 on Chelsea / Everton / Man City draw treble @ 30/1

Follow it if you dare!

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£5

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 1

Tigers! Tigers! :
In a mixed week for Wiganers (lose the rugby / win in the football / pies a bit too hot for the clement weather…) local boy Martin Stafford 40(7) was the on the upbeat side taking the first weekly prize of £20 AND the first weekly win of the new regime (did you get a 0-0?!). Well done Martin, I think a trip to your local DVD emporium to buy the last season of The Wire is on the cards yeah?! It’s brilliant, just wait til you see what happens to M–snip!
Toon! Toon! :
It’s always been girls allowed in PAS but debutant Louise Briggs & veteran Clare Nevin 10(0) really let the side down with this weeks worst score. Apparantly Louise is sooooo embarassed she’s hopped off to Oz
Correct Score of the Week :
Loads of you got the old skool 7 pointer that is now a 5 pointer called Rangers, 5 got Wigan beating the “team that will ruin football forever with their silly money”, amazingly, Matt W / Danielle F / Dave C / Anthony L all got Celtic’s 9 pointer 3-2, cunningly, Nick H / Neil T / Martin S / Lisa G got the only new 8 pointer that is 0-0 (Barnsley – Norwich) and Mark McD got 5 points for his Burnley 3 PNE 1. However, this weeks best score was Will Oppong’s Reading 4 Swansea 0. Eight lovely points my Gooner bruvver!
Bet of the Week:
For all you newbies, the Weekly winner gets a chance to lenfd you his or her expertise and guide you where to place a fiver when you visit the bookies at the weekend (everybody does that right?!). The bet can be on absolutely anything (we’ve F1 bets before, a few gee gees and plenty of madcap accumulators) and the idea is for us all to follow the advice and win some money! Over the years we’re about even all told so let’s hope Martin S gets us off to a flyer! The BotW will be maied round with the last reiminder and my scores on a Friday…
Table:
Week 1 is attached – all prize money will be added on once I have the all players paid up and confirmed…which leads nicely to…
Money!:
If you’ve paid up – thanks! If you haven’t – as soon as please! (contact me for payment details)
Other Stuff:
Spot the good and bad in this email? “Can you put me down for 4-0 for utd, arsenal and chelsea. 1-1 for liverpool. celtic and rangers 3-0 Newcastle beaten 0-1 and the rest 3-0” That’s right! Good that the player mailed me a few scores cos they didn’t have time and bad asking for 3-0 for “the rest”. If you cant/don’t complete all your scores you can ONLY have 2-0 as a “blanket” score! Got that? Good. We have our analysts poring tirelessly over the entries weeding out any spoilers, so don’t do it kids – just say no! I In this case, 2-0 gave the player a better score anyway!

And Another Thing: did you get beaten by a 12 week old???!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Pre Season

We’ve had a flurry of interested punters, the scoresheets are being processed, the huge-ever-pulsating-scoring-matrix-that-makes-tells-us-the-weekly-winner-and-compiles-the-league-table has been fired up by the coal monkeys and we’re almost ready to confiem this season’s runners and riders…involved yet? C’mon, you know you wanna….

We start on weekend 27th/28th September 2008!

If you’re a newcomer (hola!) or a regular (welcome back!), check out the “Rules” on www.pabspace.co.uk – they tell you all you need to know & hopefully it will all make sense!

Send this on to anyone you know who might be interested and get them to mail me so I can add them to the list – the more, the merrier, the more money in the kitty to be won!

P-A-S rocks! You get to show off how good you are at guessign scores! There’s a end of year poll where you get to show off how cool your music taste is! You get to show off how much money you take off the bookies in the “Bet of the Week” feature! Basically, it’s showing off…

Don’t take my word for it, check these testimonials…

  • “I play P-A-S and I’m not mental” – K Charters
  • “I put Palace to win every game. Sometimes they do. It’s all about the long game” – G Blackburn
  • “I was sooooo excited and giddy about playing the legendary PAS I wet myself…” – L Gray
  • “I know about football and I know PAS not only enhances your judgement for fixed odds betting it can be a considerable source of income in itself” – J Sain
  • “I’m a girl and even I won a weekly prize – so two fingers up to you tw*tty boys who think you know everything!” – M Webster
  • “I tried to play the system by putting in 3-1 blanket scores every week. I got found out and banned. Now I’m in jail. Don’t do it kids..” B Hannan
  • “I just threw dice for my scores and finished bottom – I don’t recommend this” – A Bennet-Dawson
  • “F*ck the football, why was Mark Ronson in the Top 5 albums last year?!” – S Morrissey
  • “I used to play religiously every season and now I live in Australia!” – J Fonas
  • “Don’t let your heart rule your head – Rangers always win 3-0 – it’s a nailed on 7 pointer” – C O’McGoldrick
  • “I give my winnings to homeless smackheads” – Mr. 2-0

Anyway… The all leagues have kicked off, so time to start honing those footie predicting skills, watching every game on telly, swotting up on the reports in the papers, poring over the league tables and ignoring every single “tip of the week” from the pro punters – enjoy!

I’ll BE SENDING THIS INVITE OUT A FEW MORE TIMES AND THEN I’ll LEAVE YOU ALONE UNTIL NEXT YEAR… PROMISE!

Cheers,
Pab

PS – remember, getting involved will seriously change your Saturday afternoons for 13 weeks and Geoff Stelling will cheer and dismay you in equal measures! Go on, you know you want to… plus, it’s a real “water cooler” moment on a Monday morning at work!
