L13 Winter 2008 : Week 13 Roundup

Congrats to Richard Hirst – Lucky 13 Winter 2008 champion! Richard came in 8 points clear and now has the 2nd greatest winning score ever to add into the Hall of Fame. A fine win Tricky, I hope your “consortium” are proud of you!

Jon Allin made a late charge and managed to finish a very respectable 2nd winning £205.00 to boot! Long time leader Jason Morris should be happy with his third place finish, Jamie Sellers makes his highest finish for years in 4th and bruv-in-law Danny Ashworth made £100 this season by finishing 5th.

Mark Seels was the third part of the “consortium” to get a Top Ten finish in 6th (they’re trying to take over kids!) and Greg Edwards surely has me to thank for finishing 7th (I gotcha Greggy!) – Louise Briggs finished “Top Girl” in 8th and joins boyf Danny in the Top Ten (happy house!). Jazz Sian adds to his astounding pile of PAS cash in 9th and brand new boys Rob Hathorn & Sean Peers couldn’t be split in 10th so share the cash and the promos (no fighting over the Cage The Elephant CDs boys!)

Well done to all – it was a very high standard this year – long may it continue!

Spot Prizers:
  • 12th – happy nuptials continue for Neil Templeton
  • 17th – looks like missing that week (12) has helped John McSherry
  • 27th – Dennis McDowell decided to leave most of it to Mr 2-0 and it paid off!
  • 31st – my old mucker Dave Crisp will be over the moon x2 cos all he wanted for Christmas was Cup place!
  • 33rd – welcome home from Japan Wayne Connolly you’re not quite a world champion but you’re a winner!
  • 42nd – I’m sure PAS CEO Dave Nicklin will plough his winnings back into our R&D funds?
  • 52nd – some cheer for Spurs fan and original original PASer John Williamson
  • 57th – our very own “security” Howard Thomas recoups!
  • 65th – the “big one” for the “losers”…Mark Fawke will no doubt be treating his internet dates to at least an egg nog this Christmas
  • 72nd – oh the similarities! near the bottom and money to spend – Matt Davies will probably make a better fist of it than Sparky though
Cup 2009:
to qualify for invitation to the PAS Cup 2009 you will have to have finished above Jamie Tofeili – let the taunting of Jon begin!
The Wooden Spoon:
Danielle Fleming, my little niece! Don’t think I’ll forget to hand this over in the New Year – you spanner!
Other Stuff:
All monies will be paid very soon – I will hold back next year’s entry fee unless you want opt out – let me know!
And Another Thing:
The annual PAS Poll is with you – loads of entries sent back – muchos gracias! If you haven’t already, you’ve got a day!

Thanks for taking part this season – a pleasure as always (although winning some money makes it all the sweeter!) – if haven’t made the Cup, please come back in September – I’ll be in touch!

Merry Christmas!

Cheers,
Pab

One game to go on the last week of PAS Winter 2008..,

Wizzard:
A very good week to get a good score and even better to actually win it! Jon Allin 42 (5) will happily receive his £20 just in time for his work Secret Santa or will it be for will he spend on the Plymouth Ho? (and does that become Ho Ho Ho at Christmas?)

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 11 Result & PAS Poll…

Harry Boo!:
I think we’ve got our League Champion now…Richard Hirst 34 (4) has landed his second weekly prize of the campaign and created a nice little buffer for himself at the top of the table – surely only a collapse akin to Kelvin Koogan’s Toon can stop him now? Where’s Jazz when you need him eh?!
Eboue!:
I’ll admit it was another shocking week of random scores but to get under 10 points???! Neil Birchall 7 (0) we salute you!
Correct Score of the Week:
Seven got Inverness 1 Dundee U 3, five got Blackburn 1 Liverpool 3, four got Stockport 1 Peterborough 3, Scott A/Anthony L/Richard H got Bristol City 0 Swansea City 0, Michael G/Stephen S/Francesca F got Coventry 2 Nottm Forest 2, Michael G/Bev M/Ben H got Sheff U 2 Burnley, JohnMcS/Danny A got Birmingham 3 Watford 2 and Glyn W got Newcastle 2 Stoke 2. But, this week’s best correct score and now best of the season goes to Matt Worsfold for his thrilling nine pointer, Everton 2 Aston Villa 3. Like taking sweets of a baby eh Matt? Little Frankie is still crying about losing her title!
Bet of the Week:
We’re now £45.60 down – Louise B’s NW flavoured 5 timer went the way of all but one before – come on Tricky! We need a winner!

Well Neil m and myself were walking in the Northern Quarter (Neil calls it the “metal shuttered ghetto”, I call it edgy, post modern cool and different)when two discerning gentlemen of the street approached asked, in between swigs of sherry, for 50p. Safe to say Bargain Booze got a £10 hammering as they danced off down the street…bless!
And Another Thing:
The annual PAS Poll is here – get involved! Even if you fill in and send back one of the categories your efforts are noted and appreciated – go on, it’s Christmas!

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 10 Roundup

RVP:
There’ll be dancing in the streets of Stalybridge for a second week running as Louise Briggs 48(7) is this week’s winner of the £20 prize. Well done Louise, should make up for the derby defeat eh?!
RIP:
There’ll be dancing in the house of Grey for a second week too as Week 8 winner Lisa will no doubt be doing the Jig of Schadenfreude at the news of Mark Grey 11(0) hitting rock bottom this week. Only adds to the derby defeat eh Marky?!
Correct Score of the Week:
Seventeen(!!) got Reading 3 Coventry 1, eleven got Millwall 3 Aldershot 0, nine got Charlton 0 Southampton 0 (how??!), eight got Middlesbro 0 Newcastle 0, six got Swansea 2 Cardiff 2 and a famous five got Chelsea 1 Arsenal 2. Greg E/Julian F/Neil B/Jon A got Liverpool 0 West Ham 0, Nick H/Anthony Y/Matt G got Burnley 3 Derby 0, Martin S & Dave McS got Palace 0 QPR 0, Rich L got Hearts 2 Rangers 1, Bev M got Sheff Wed 3 Norwich 2 and Louise B got Pompey 3 Blackburn 2. This week’s best correct score goes to Dave McSherry for his eight pointer Villa 0 Fulham 0
Bet of the Week:
We’re now £40.60 down – Danny A’s Scottish venture crashed & burned at the first hurdle at Tynecastle. We’re officially in trouble (well, if you’ve been following ti like me!) with 3 weeks to go, so we need Louise B to make amends for her other half’s failings…

Table News:

Swings:
Proper bun fight at the top now as Jason M’s seemingly unassailable lead has been sailed in by Richard Hirst, who now tops the pile by 1 correct score. Jon A and Jamie S are doing their level best to hang on to the Top Twos coat tails…
Slide:
Matt Davies remains bottom eight points behind Danielle F and 11 from Mark McD – the rubbish monkeys!

The annual PAS Poll is coming – get ready to get involved!

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 10 Update

Neil Birchall needs a couple of 0-0 stalemates in Monday’s games to stop Louise Briggs winning the Week 10 £20…

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 10 BotW

Danny Ashworth was last weeks winner and he’s aiming to get us out of a red hole…

This weeks bet of the week will have a Scottish feel to it and get us back in a plus, so here it is!

Five whole pounds on a 5 game accumi with wins for Celtic, Kilmarnock, Rangers, Dundee Utd and St Johnstone.

This should get around £104.41 profit just in time for christmas. Happy betting!

Oh and remember Rangers is on at 12.30 live on Setanta on Saturday so dont be late….

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£40.60

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 9 Roundup

Paradise:
How do you manage to get over 30 points on such a dire week of predicting? Ask Danny Ashworth 31 (6) and spare a little thought for Lisa G who only missed on a second consecutive payout virtue of one less correct score. Well done Danny boy, £20 to savour down the local takeouts of Stalyvegas no doubt!
Oblivious:
How do you manage to get under 10 points on such a dire week of predicting? Ask Dave Crisp 9(0) who crashed and burned a bit like his beloved Gooners – you need backbone son, a backbone! Ask Arsene, he’ll tell ya – what? Oh yeah, sorry, my mistake, he’s as deluded as your scores mate!
Correct Score of the Week:
A great eight got the Irish team’s 1-3 at St Mirren, Anthony L / Glyn W / Danny A got Hull’s 2-2 at Pompey, Michael G (hooray!) & Mark S got West Ham’s 0-1 at SundIreland and Will O was the only player to pick up 8 points off a 0-0 with his Burnley-Doncaster stalemate. This week’s best correct score, however, goes to the luvverly Danielle Fleming for her complete guess at Watford 3 QPR 0. Well done Dando!
Bet of the Week:
We’re now £35.60 down – Lisa G’s sure thing turned out only half sure and done a runner with our fiver – over to you Danny, I know you’ve been champing at the bit and had a couple of “only one team let me down for £300” lately – so here’s your stage!

Table News:

Deep & Wide & Tall:
Jason Morris still heads up the table with an apparent unassailable lead of 15 points. Richard H has a 9 point lead over Jamie S in third
Down The Dip:
Matt Davies has clawed back 7 points to catch up with Neil B and in turn they trail Anthony Y by 7 points
Still On Fire:
Highest climber this week is Anthony Latter up 14 points to 27th. Honourable mentions for Danny A (+8), Dennis McD (+8), Glyn W (+8) and Dan C (+7)
The Crying Scene:
Falling furthest this week is Andrew Darbyshire down 15 points to 36th – dishonourable mentions for Dan R (-14), Matt G (-10), El Presidente (-10), Jon T (-8) and Dave C (-8)
Spot Prizers:
OK, if you finish on these positions at the end of Week 13, you win these prizes! Rob H is on the promos at 11th(-2), Nick H is at 12th(+3), Greg E on 17th(-5), Anthony L is at 27th (+14), Julian F is at 31st(+1), Dave N is at 33rd(+4), Jamie T is at 42nd(+2), Glyn W is at 52nd(+8), Seb A is at 57th(-1), Michael G is where you wanna be if you’re a loser, on 65th(non mover) and Neil B is at 72nd(-2)
Cup 2009:
to qualify for invitation to the PAS Cup 2009 you will have to finish here at the end of Week 13 – current resident is Martin S (-4)
Other Stuff:
”You will see that despite the deadline passing for the Swansea/Brum match I have included my bona-fide prediction for that match. Having had such a good week last week I needed to maintain the big Mo and what better way to do it than with a feisty Friday evening championship match. Or so I thought… Slight taking of eye off the ball combined with child minding duties and disaster strikes. If any good comes out of my oversight/error it is that others can learn from such folly. Please feel free to use this salutary lesson for me as proof that PAS requires the dedication and respect it cries out for. Yours gutted.” Mark Seels on nailing the 2-3 at Swansea and then having that “oh no!” moment…
And Another Thing:
“I hope you don’t mind but I manually changed the document to reflect the correct name of The Celtic Football Club as I’m sure you’re aware that Glasgow Celtic doesn’t exist. I expect such appalling syntax errors never to happen again. I don’t pay good money into this tournament to have the name of my team made up! London Arsenal or Liverpool Everton anyone?!?” Ciaran McGoldrick gives us a Gaelic history lesson and some natty suggestions… we stand o’corrected!

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 9 Update…

OMG what a shocker of a week eh?! And that’s just Arsenal…

With one game to go, any result bar 2-1 to Wigan or 0-1 Everton means that Danny Ashworth will win – 2-1 will give Lisa Grey her 2nd successive win (any Wigan win and Lisa will miss out courtesy of the “most correct scores” rule) and 0-1 will see Anthony Latter share the spoils with Danny…

If you’re on over 20 you’re either a tactical genuis, lucky or a discile of Mr 2-0…

Full SP tomorrow night

Cheers,
Pab

PS – best song from the Citeh fans – “Gallas was right, you’re f*cking sh*te…”

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 9 BotW

Here’s the BotW, Lisa’s quadruple:

Chelsea, Wolves, Burnley, Celtic to win

Looking at around 2.68/1 – so a nice safe one to chip away at the deficit!

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£35.60

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 8 Roundup

The Kids:
Bizarre week, bizarre scores, bizarre entries sent in (Wayne C forgot to save his scores and Neil B sent in a 2007 scoresheet – duh! & uh?!). However, she’s only ever had a mention previously for being a bit rubbish on these pages but now she gets a mention for being rather good! Lisa Grey 51 (8) was far and away this week’s winner and now she has £20 to perhaps spend on Man City v Arsenal this weekend or at least come out for a pre and post match drink? We had such fun last season!
The So Called 1st Team:
I think Titus Bramble’s last minute goal put the icing on a particular horrible cake this week for Dave Nicklin 12(0). Nevermind mate at least Saint Alan will be along soon to pick you up!
Correct Score of the Week:
Insania abound! 21 got the training session at the Hawthorns, 7 got Hibees draw with Aberdeen, 6 got the solitary 0-0 at W Ham, 5 got the Brazilian-off at the KC, Mark S/Stephen P/Julian F/Ciaran McG got the really annoying 5-0 at OT (yes, I had 4’s), Dave C & Julian F got the tie on the Toon, Louise B & Danielle F got a fab 3-2 for Birmingham, Paul H/Will O/Matt G got Derby’s 3-0 v Sheff Wed, Jon A & Simon L got an even fabber 2-3 for Swansea at Norwich and my beaut little girl Frankie showed amazing acumen on her 4 month old birthday to know that Forest would draw 2-2 with Bristol C and that Lee Camp would save another last minute penalty. But, this week’s best correct score was, of course, Jason Morris’s Fulham 2 Spurs 1
Bet of the Week:
We’re now £30.60 down, the Jamie S 10/1 (thanks Matt G) treble failed on every level. Lise, you’re up next girl, I’m sure Mr Grey will help you along!

Table News:

Numero Uno::
Ladies & Gentlemen, we have a new predicting machine among our ranks – move over Jazz! Jason Morris has a 13 point lead fro his pal Tricky who in turn leads Jazz by 7 points. Ciaran McG & Mark S crash into the Top Ten and the “syndicate” from last year that split into five parts this year now has four of them in the Top Ten – we must stop them kids!
Numero. erm, 73:
Matt Davies (a previous Marmite winner I’ll have you know!) is still bottom 7 points behind Mark S. Mrs F is close to bringing the family name into disrepute in 71st!
Ascento:
No surprises to hear Lisa Grey is the highest climber this week, up an enormo 33 places to 13h. Honourable mentions for Ciaran McG (+15), Julian F (+19), Neil M (+18) and Louise B (+13)
Descento:
No surprises to hear Dave Nicklin is the biggest faller this week, down an average 14 places to 37h (Mr 2-0 shared the honour too!) – dishonourable mentions for John Dan C (-12), Dennis McD (-13), Steve T (-12) and Clare N (-13)
Spotteo!:
OK, if you finish on these positions at the end of Week 13, you win these prizes! Wayne C is on the promos at 11th(-5), Greg E is at 12th(-3), Tim B on 17th(-9), Dennis McD is at 27th (-13), Tony B is at 31st(+1), Steve T is at 33rd(-12), Louise B is at 42nd(+13), Stewart L is at 52nd(-3), Matt W is at 57th(-10), Michael G is where you wanna be if you’re a loser, on 65th(-3) and Mark S is at 72nd(non mover)
Copa:
To qualify for invitation to the PAS Cup 2009 you will have to finish here at the end of Week 13 – current resident is Julian F (+19)
Other Stuff:
The famous PAS Poll is on the horizon, we’re just finishing off the categories so get your memories recalled and get involved!
And Another Thing:
Wenger out!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 8 BotW

From Jamie S…

Can you do something with this?

Home win triple: Blackburn, QPR, Hull.

Can someone make a note of the odds on this please!

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£30.60

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 7 Roundup

Onboard:
As a supporter of the Britain’s richest club, Jamie Sellers 38(7) may consider a score to be mere schrapnel but he’ll be happy nonetheless that he edged out Wayne C by a point to win this weeks prize. Oh Wayne, if only Utd had won at Arsenal.
Overboard:
On the other side of a miserable Manchester Matt Davies 11(0) managed to clamber to last yet again for a second week running but at least he didn’t make it to the game on Sunday – a saving grace!
Correct Score of the Week:
Right, ready? 22 got Liverpool, 8 got Reading, 6 got Arsenal (no, not me), 5 got Norwich and 5 got Swansea – Jon A &Matt G got an 8 pointer at Wigan and Mark S &Jon A (again) got a 5 pointer at Plymouth – Mark G got Boro’s fine win at Villa (can you tell who I’ve got in the spreads?) but this weeks best correct score goes to Paul Jenner for his West Ham 1 Everton 3
Bet of the Week:
£25.60 down – I’m sorry! I was in a hurry! Big apologies for one of the worst set of selections ever – Jamie S will see us right next week, right Jamie?!

Table News:

You Are Pure, You Are Snow:
Staying top of the pile, Jason Morris increases his lead over Jazz S in 2nd to 7 points. However, Jamie S and Richard H have reeled them in to make it a competitive Top Four. Neil T sails off on honeymoon to the Southern hemisphere bridging the gap from the rest of the Top Ten (six of which have now gone over the 200 point mark)
Alienation:
Mark S is off the bottom leaving a hapless Matt Davies there in his place. It’s shaping up to be an interesting battle to get to 65th as only 10 points separates the places.
Everybody Loves Me:
Highest climber this week is Utd exile in London Seb Almond, up 12 places to 45th. I’m sure he’s overjoyed! Honourable mentions for Howard T (+11) – Eagles!, Matt G (+10) – that another fiver you owe me Matty?, Danny A (+11) – good babysitting skills! and Wayne C (+11) – chin up, you’ll still win the league!
We Are The Usless Sl*ts:
Falling furthest this week is Paul Henshaw down 8 places to 57th – dishonourable mention also for John McS (-7)
Boredom &Despair:
OK, if you finish on these positions at the end of Week 13, you win these prizes! Dave C is on the promos at 11th(+7), Dan R is at 12th(-4), Rob H on 17th(+7), Shaun B is at 27th (for a third week in a row!), Simon L is at 31st(-6), Olly O is at 33rd(-2), Clare N is at 42nd(-1), Jamie T is at 52nd(-1), Paul H is at 57th(-8), Mark F is where you wanna be if you’re a loser, on 65th(-5) and Mark S is at 72nd(+1)
Culture:
To qualify for invitation to the PAS Cup 2009 you will have to finish here at the end of Week 13 – current resident is Tony B (-3)
Other Stuff:
Remember we had half a weekly prize to give out cos of Mr 2-0? Well 5 contenders didn’t, leaving Tim Birtwisle 22(3) all alone to scoop up the tenner surpassing the others 16(2)
And Another Thing:
“Wenger out!”? Moi?

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 7 BotW

Hola!

I’m off to Donegal to drink the black stuff and try and stay sober enough to DJ at PASers Neil T & Clare N’s wedding – no doubt if I get too squiffy, Olly O will bail me out… Anyway – scoresheets by 12.44 on Saturday please.

Bet of the Week falls to yours truly as Mr 2-0 kept saying “2-0” for everything… £5 split on the following:

£3 win accumulator:
Sunderland / Blackpool / QPR / Wolves / Southampton @ 55/1
£1 draw treble:
Arsenal / Hull / Dundee Utd @ 34/1
£1 draw accumulator:
Arsenal / Hull / Dundee Utd / St Mirren @ 116/1

The luck o’ the Irish to ya begora!

Slainte!

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 6 Roundup

One Day Like This:
It hasn’t happened before so it was only a matter of time I suppose! A spate of 2-0 results gave Mr 2-0 39 (8) the weekly winning score dragging along Clare Nevin, Dan Rayner, Steve Tagger, Tim Birtwisle, Dan Clements & Dennis McDowell. Now those who are not new to this game know that someone that doesn’t exist can’t get any money – it goes to the first homeless person we see. Soooooo, as this week is shared, £10 will go to a random and the other tenner will go to whoever gets the highest score next week from Clare (on her wedding weekend!), Dan, Steve, Tim, Dan & Dennis. Tony B for one will be cursing the Geordies!
Elbow
Wishing they’d left it to fate like they’ve done quite often this season are Matt Davies & Dave McSherry 9(0). Imagine if they supprted Citeh and Arsenal as well! What? Oh!
Correct Score of the Week
This 0-0 spotting is getting me down – 12 of you got St Mirren v Hibs and 6 got Falkirk v Dundee Utd and 5 got Donny v Swansea. 13 players jumped for joy at the Russian’s goal down the Lane and 7 got WBA 2 Blackburn 2. Best score for this week though goes to Lisa Grey for her Pompey 1 Wigan 2. If anyone had got Man U – Hull, I would have abandoned the competition!
Bet of the Week
Oh man! We’re £20.60 down now as Pompey let us down in one acca and Villa in the other. Mr 2-0 can’t bet so I’ll put together a little something to bring is back up to speed!

Table News

Mountain High:
Jason Morris is the first to break the 200 point barrier and forges ahead 4 points clear of Jazz S in 2nd. These two are now pulling away from the tightly bunched peleton – Tim B and Dan R crash into the Top Ten courtesy of their good mate Mr 2-0
River Deep:
Mark Shakespeare remains Bottom (geddit!) 4 points adrift of Danielle F who in turn is 4 points away from Neil B
Climbing:
Another disciple of Mr 2-0, Steve Tagger is bigging up his chest this week cos he’s up 24 places to 15th – Bo! Honourable mentions for Mr 2-0 (+22), Dan C (+21), Dennis McD (+21), Clare N (+20) and Tony B (+19).
Drowning:
Matt Worsfold and Dave McSherry are both down 18 places to 46th & 58th respectively – the sl*gs. Dishonourable mentions for Rich L (-17), Matt D (-15), Paul J (-13), John W (-13) and Martin S (-13)
Spot Prizers:
OK, if you finish on these positions at the end of Week 13, you win these prizes! Dennis McD is on the promos at 11th(+21), Stephen S is at 12th(-2), Wayne C on 17th(-8), Shaun B is at 27th(non mover), Olly O is at 31st(+4), Rich L is at 33rd(-17), Stephen P is at 42nd(-4), Anders H is at 52nd(-5), Seb A is at 57th(+5), Paul J is where you wanna be if you’re a loser, on 65th(-13) and Danielle Fis at 72nd(-6)
PAS Cup 2009:
To qualify for invitation to the PAS Cup 2009 you will have to finish here at the end of Week 13 – current resident is Francesca F (-12)
Other Stuff:
It’ll be an early shout for the “last call” this week as I’m off to the first PAS Wedding in Donegal, Norn Iron – yay!
And Another Thing:
Did Rory Delap keep his “skill” a secret at Southampton and Derby?

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 6 BotW – Part 2

BotW2 comes from Nick “Mustard” Hogwood…

Sorry about late bet – similar to Neil T’s: Chelsea, Man Utd, Rangers, Aston Villa and Motherwell (!)

If you lump on that, you’ll get 6/1 – go forth!

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£20.60

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 6 BotW – Part 1

Bet of the Week part 1 comes from Neil T so far…

Sorry, up to my eyes so going to go on a very boring accumulator £5 on United, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Chelsea and Everton.

Winnings of just over £46 on Skybet. Banker!

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£15.60

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 5 Roundup

The Aimless:
It was nip n tuck all the way but in the end they couldn’t be separated! Nick Hogwood & Neil Templeton 41 (6) share the Week 5 prize with £10 each. Well done chaps, Neil will be able to add a bit more to the wedding ring kitty and Nick will probably mock his brother in a sibling baiting fashion!
Aimless:
She’s just got back from Down Under but she probably wishes she was still there, Louise Briggs 13 (1) is the bottom of the world of this weeks scores!
Correct Score of the Week:
I might have to scrap this section as it’s a) boring and b) I’m never in it! Anyway, 16 got Birmingham’s 3-1, 14 got Man City’s 3-0, 11 got Rangers’s 1-3, 9 got Rochdale’s 94th minute 3-1 (when I had 2-1 – grrrr!), 7 got one of the two 0-0’s available at Barnsley, 5 got Blackpool’s 2-2 with Palace, Danielle F / Dave C / Mark G / Nick H got Swansea’s 3-0, Dan R / Francesca F / John W / Neil T have a missed penalty to thank for Wolves 2-3 win at Watford, Michael G / Mark S got Liverpool’s historic win that stops Chelsea doing a 38 (yay!) and Greg E & Michelle F saved their skins from an abject week by getting a 10 pointer at Celtic. This week’s Best Correct Score goes to Dan Clements for his Everton 1 Man Utd 1.
Bet of the Week:
Speaking of Man bloomin Yoo, we can all hate them a little bit more as they let us down for £70 in Tricky’s 5 team acca. We find ourselves £10.60 down but have 2 winners to help redress the balance – step up Neil T (can you spare 5 from learning your speech?) and Nick H.

Table News

Top Banana:
Jason Morris swaps places with Richard H and he now has a 3 point lead at the top. Jazz S is lurking in 3rd and these three now have a 15 point buffer from the chasing pack. Neil T is the significant new entry in the top prize positions at 5.
Rubbish Monkey:
Mark Shakespeare slips 4 places to the bottom and I’ll err away from the obvious to say he’s in double double toil and trouble, Neil B is only 2 points above him and Sp*rs feelgood factor has spread far and wide as Michael G is off the bottom in 71st
On The Up:
Scott Angus moves up 25 places to 24th – skills! Honourable mentions for Neil T (+15), Dave C (+20), Nick H (+24) and Ciaran McG (+20)
On A Downer:
Steve Tagger falls down 18 places to 39th – Boo! dishonourable mentions for Mark J B (-15), Matt G (-14), Louise B (-15) and Julian F (-13)
Spot Prizers:
OK, if you finish on these positions at the end of Week 13, you win this prize! Dave C is on the promos at 11th(+20), Nick H is at 12th(+24), Martin S on 17th(-9), Shaun B is at 27th(-4), Dan C is at 31st(+3), Danny A is at 33rd(-6), Mark G is at 42nd(-3), Paul J is at 52nd(+9), Mr 2-0 is at 57th(-3), Mark F is where you wanna be if you’re a loser, on 65th(-7) and Neil B is at 72nd(-5)
PAS Cup 2009:
to qualify for invitation to the PAS Cup 2009 you will have to finish here at the end of Week 13 – current resident is Dennis McD(+5)
Money!:
All been promised and paid in by the end of the week apparently!
Other Stuff:
My shadow scorer lost his way a bit this week – shame!
And Another Thing:
The 5-1 will be avenged ’Arry!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 5 BotW

Bet of the Week comes from Richard Hirst

The bet is : Birmingham, Norwich, Swansea, Peterborough, Man U – Cheers, Tricky

That acca is a handsome 13/1 on Paddy Power so we’ll get back, well, you do the math(s). Not sure if Mr Hirst is Tricky because he turns out West Country trip hop or he saws girls in half on stage, whatever let’s hope he tricks £70 out of the bookies (ho ho)

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£10.60

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 4 Roundup

“The Promise”:
He didn’t break the 61 point benchmark but Richard Hirst 59 (8) will still be made up to collect the £20 weekly prize and make a big dent in the table. Tricky stuff!
The Threat:
Woe is a Wiganer! Robbed by the Scousers (surely you don’t take from your own?!) on Saturday, Neil Birchall 12 (0) got a double whammy of grief by finishing last this week. What will your new nephew think…
Correct Score of the Week:
And there was me thinking 0-0s would be really hard to predict…
15 got Arsenal 3 Everton 1, 19 got Man Utd 4 WBA 0 (happy stag do Neil T!), 9 got Hull’s 1-0 and 9 got Stoke’s 2-1 (is this really a surprise anymore?), 5 got the Toon’s and the Tractor Boy’s “Desmond”, 11(!!) got Doncaster 0 Blackpool 0 and Bolton 0 Blackburn 0, 8 got the stalemate at Fulham and 5 got Villa’s 0-0 with Pompey. Jason M / Wayne C / Rich L all got the Eagles 3-0 win and Anthony Y & Anders H got the travesty at Anfield. The best correct score has to be unique, so no winner this week…
Bet of the Week:
Dave N gave us a gallant run for our money but Franchise FC let us down with a 2-2 draw – so, we go into Week 5 £5.60 down, over to Richard H to lead us to salvation…
Table News:
Full comprehensive table attached – I think we’ve got it right this week!
Tip Top:
He left a consortium to go it alone and so far so good for Richard Hirst who finds himself top of the pile with a 3 point lead from fellow ex-consort Jason M. Jazz S makes an ominous move into 3rd – be afraid!
Swing Low:
As hapless as his team but with 73 more points, Michael Green finds himself 6 points adrift of Jamie T – Glyn W and Donna E are falling fast to join them!
Highest Climber:
I am ace! Up 37 places to 17th – check it! Honourable mentions for John W (+22), Francesca F (+21 – what a girl!), Olly O/ Tim B / Richard H (+17)
Biggest Faller:
Not so ace this week is Dennis McDowell down 23 places to 37th – dishonourable mentions for Neil B / Mr 2-0 (ha ha!) / Dan Clements (-22), Neil M (-21) and Matt D (-20)
Spot Prizers:
OK, if you finish on these positions at the end of Week 13, you win the prize!
For now, Rich L is at 11th (+13), Stephen S is at 12th (-6), i’m on 17th (+37), Danny A is at 27th (-12), Dave C is at 31st(-18), Tim B is at 33rd(+17), Will O is at 42nd(-9), Mark McD is at 52nd(+8), Anthony L is at 57th(-6), Anthony Y is where you wanna be if you’re a loser, on 65th(+8) and Jamie T is at 72nd(-2)
PAS Cup 2009:
to qualify for invitation to the PAS Cup 2009 you will have to finish here at the end of Week 13 – current resident is Olly O (+17)
Money!:
If your name is here, you’ve got a few days left to sort it or you’re facing expulsion from this season’s competition (some of you have been in touch so make sure you get yer cash in as promised!) (drum roll please…)
Martin Stafford (£2.50) / Steve Tagger / Mark J Brown (shall I send you a Paypal request?) / Tim Birtwisle / Dave McSherry / Matt Davies / Neil Birchall / Stephen Peaston / Dan Rayner / Dave Tagger / Jamie Tofeili
Other Stuff:
Nowt – just need your money in non-payers!!
And Another Thing:
Win a trophy or Sp*rs go down? Hmmmmm….

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 4 Update…

Dave N must have thought scoring 61 points last week had definitely secured the £15 prize for “best score of the season”, however, with one game to go, that total is in danger of being surpassed… Richard Hirst 59 (8) needs a Citeh 0-2 win tonight and he’ll be sitting pretty on 63 points – and yeah, he is the Week 4 winner!

Not far behind (well, I say not far…) is yours truly who seems to be on some kind of ESP trip with one of our throng as amazingly, we had EXACTLY the same scores for 21 out 30 games! Hold on. What? His scores came in after mine were sent out? Oh. Maybe I should be flattered then….

Full update tomorrow including a proper table!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 4 BotW

Bet of the week comes from Week 3 winner Dave N – over to you Dave –

I have no idea how I managed a 61pt International week… probably something to do with “borrowing” the Home/Draw/Win predictions from Glen Bevis out of The Sun – then tweaking his score predictions! Don’t cheat kids! Although in all fairness he only got a 43pt week, so he’s crap really.

Anyway, I’ll try to keep BotW simple, six games accumulator on these teams to win:

Man Utd, Liverpool, Rangers, Shrewsbury, MK Dons, Southend

Not sure what the odds are on those, working in the Ministry of Truth with restricted Internet access means I’ll be dragged off to Room 101 sharpish if I even think of browsing a gambling site…

I can tell you two things: Rangers have top trumped the Scousers black armband obsession by actually calling off a game as a mark of respect for the Dundee U chairman/top geezer who died recently (thanks for the heads up Sephen S – please note that game will now be void on your scoresheets). The (now) 5 team acca tots up as 11.5/1 – get on!

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£5.60

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 3

Omar Little:
Very high calibre of scores posted this week – even bods as far down as 40th could’ve won it in a normal week – eek! However, he led at the break, and he kept up the pressure to pull away from Sean Peers, Jason Morris and John McSherry (chin up boys!) – big up my fellow board member and inventor of the PAS scoring matrix, (does this sound a bit suss?) Dave Nicklin 61 (10). Dave will be donating his £20 to first foreigner willing to buy out Mike Ashley at the Toon!
Stuart Little :
So if you we’re down with the detritus you really will feel the pain this week – no more so than my good friend Michael Green 21 (1). Unfortunately Michael is disabled when it comes to football but I’m sure he’ll take heart that it can only get better as they say down the Lane!
Correct Score of the Week :
Oh man! This is where I really feel bad! 24 of you got Denmark, 14 Spain, 12 Greece, 9 Belarus – England, 6 the lovely 0-0 in the Ukraine, 5 the even lovelier 0-0 in Bulgaria on Saturday, 5 Romania – France and 5 both San Marino’s games. Paul H / Matt G / Louise B / John McS got Lux 1 – Israel 3, Tony B / Olly O / Mark McD got Serbia 3 Lith 0 and Stewart L & Jon A have Chris Ilummox to thank for Scotland 0 Norway 0. Correct score of the week though goes to Karl Chartres for his Faroe Islands 1 Austria!
Bet of the Week:
Did you get on? Greg E correctly gave us a 4/5 accumulator meaning we are 60p shy of breaking even – well done Greggy boy! Up next is serial accumulator master Dave N who will try to mirror his 15/1 winner from last year (or was it the year before that?)
Table:
Week 3 is attached – full table update next week as we’ve had a very late comer join the fray and he threw my calculations out!
Money!:
Still a few stragglers – if your name is here, you’ve got til Friday October 24th to settle up or face excommunication, tar and feathering and general ridicule from your peers!(drum roll please)Martin Stafford (£2.50) / Steve Tagger / Mark J Brown (shall I send you a Paypal request?) / Dave Crisp / Tim Birtwisle / Dave McSherry / Matt Davies / Neil Birchall / Stephen Peaston / Dan Rayner / Dave Tagger / Jamie Tofeili. Come on!!! Don’t let me down and drop out now people!
Other Stuff:
Spotter prize to Ben H for pointing out the, ahem, deliberate misspelling of Norn Ireland’s conquerors on Saturday. You can’t sniff at talent like that! Please aim to send your scoresheets back in Word doc as we had a bit of mare with one punters scores this week due to “format” issues in the matrix – safe to say we picked it up, amended and Dave N has provided a fix. If you think your score has been calculated wrong please shout up we need to kill any bugs there may be lurking out there – we rarely wrong mind! Congrats to Steve Tagger and Martin Stafford who each had a safe delivery of a future PASer this week. Bless!
And Another Thing:
I hate Setanta.

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 3 Update…

As an PAS old-timer pointed out, “International Week” is feast or famine and we’ve got a potential best weekly total ever if Dave Nicklin’s banquet of a score carries on where he’s left off!
Dave is currently leading the way with 52 (9) – Jason M 44 (7), Sean P 42 (6) & Danny A 40 (6) are all hoping his table gets cleared…
Down the other end amongst the beggars, a Spurs fan, a Man City fan & a QPR fan join me, my daughter and my niece fighting over the scraps.
On a happier note though, I followed Greg E’s advice and near enough doubled my money with the BotW – yay!
Full result on Wednesday / Thursday morning.

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 3 BotW

Bet of the Week comes from Greg Edwards – he’s been sensible (he hasn’t bet on Wales for a start) and if this little lot comes in we’ll only be 60p in the red – I like it Greg, I like it…

5 Homes: Denmark, England Holland, Greece and Finland.

£5 on that with Paddy Power will return £9.44

Cheers
Pab

Result: WIN! -£0.60

PS – did you see Scott Angus on Soccer AM this morning? Good skills!

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 2

I Want Candy :
Pretty low standard for a winning score but it won’t mean a thing to Greg Edwards 31 (3) cos he’s snagged the £20 this week. I say snagged, he actually still owes me £2.50 the thieving (sort’ve) Scouse!
I Want Crisps :
Meanwhile, across the Pennines Stewart Lee 9 (0) may well be rueful of submitting his scores ultra early without a glance at current form, league tables, thinking Leeds (Leeds Leeds) will win every week!
Correct Score of the Week :
14(!) got Reading 3 Burnley 1, 8 got Celtic 4 Hamilton 0, Seb A / Mark Sh / Gareth M / Dave T got the score-we-shall-never-mention at the Stadium of Light, Lisa G got the score-we’ll mention-every-week at White Hart Lane, Stephen P got Sheff U’s 3-0 win over Bristol C and Greg E got a luvverly 9 pointer with Coventry 4 Southampton 1. But, with a talent she obviously got from her dad (actually, that’s a lie – it’s her nan feeding her the scores), Francesca Fernandez got this week’s and the best so far, Correct Score of the Week with Man City 2 Liverpool 3
Bet of the Week:
In time honoured tradition we fall at the first hurdle as our Week 1 “expert” crashed and burned with his two tiered selection. So, £5 down, we look to Greg E to get us back in the black!
Table:
All prize money has be added now. Apologies for missing people off etc. but I think we’ve got everyone on there now! Please let me know if you’re not on there (document saving bugs this end!)
Money!:
Right, if your name is here, you’ve got til Friday October 24th to settle up or face excommunication, tar and feathering and general ridicule from your peers! (drum roll please) Martin Stafford (£2.50) / Steve Tagger / Mark J Brown (shall I send you a Paypal request?) / Dave Crisp / Tim Birtwisle / Scott Angus / Matt Davies / Greg Edwards (£2.50) / Neil Birchall / Michael Green / Richard Lee / Gareth Morgan / Matt Worsfold / Wayne Connolly / Mark Shakespeare / Stephen Peaston / Dan Rayner / Donna Edmead / Andrew Chesworth / Dave Tagger / Michelle Fernandez / Jamie Tofeili. Don’t let me down people!
Other Stuff:
If a scoresheet is sent out and the first match is say, 12.45, any entries received from 12.46 onwards will have said game as “2-0” but all other scores are still valid. The same works if you miss the 3pm kick offs – you’ll get “2-0” for all those missed but your scores still count for the late kick offs and the Sunday/Monday games. It’s worth sending your scores in if their late as Greg E didn’t submit a scoresheet until 5pm this week – and he won! Oh, and it’s the time the email is RECEIVED irrespective of when it’s sent so don’t leave it too late eh?
And Another Thing:
We love City Hull again this week as much as the new TV On The Radio album!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 2 BotW

Bet of the Week comes from Week 1 winner Martin Stafford – a lot of thought gone into this!

In these difficult economic times it may be better to pursue shorter prices and if it were my last fiver, I’d commit Wigan heresy and back Saint Helens in the rugby league grand final, there is poor value on offer though a 8.5 point handicap will only give 6/4 in a two horse race…

However in the spirit of PAS, its always better to go for a football accumulator…

Landing 3 draws will pay you approx 30/1 so split the fiver in a on an optimistic acca

Sunday has plenty of draws: Chelsea v Villa, Everton v Newcastle and Man City v Liverpool all to draw £2.50

You could always use the other £2.50 to then cover the 3 doubles in some face saving cover bet or because someone has to win at chelsea sooner or later chase value by putting the other £2.50 on Villa to win at chelsea (11/2 and probably longer on betfair)

(obviously a Chelsea win would ruin this so if you want to play safe back Saints on saturday in the M62 rugby grand final)

Confused? Play safe? Never!

I’ll break it down and make it simple for you (and edit the choices!)

  • £2.50 on St Helen’s to win with a 8.5 point handicap @ 6/4
  • £2.50 on Chelsea / Everton / Man City draw treble @ 30/1

Follow it if you dare!

Cheers
Pab

Result: LOSE! -£5

L13 Winter 2008 : Week 1

Tigers! Tigers! :
In a mixed week for Wiganers (lose the rugby / win in the football / pies a bit too hot for the clement weather…) local boy Martin Stafford 40(7) was the on the upbeat side taking the first weekly prize of £20 AND the first weekly win of the new regime (did you get a 0-0?!). Well done Martin, I think a trip to your local DVD emporium to buy the last season of The Wire is on the cards yeah?! It’s brilliant, just wait til you see what happens to M–snip!
Toon! Toon! :
It’s always been girls allowed in PAS but debutant Louise Briggs & veteran Clare Nevin 10(0) really let the side down with this weeks worst score. Apparantly Louise is sooooo embarassed she’s hopped off to Oz
Correct Score of the Week :
Loads of you got the old skool 7 pointer that is now a 5 pointer called Rangers, 5 got Wigan beating the “team that will ruin football forever with their silly money”, amazingly, Matt W / Danielle F / Dave C / Anthony L all got Celtic’s 9 pointer 3-2, cunningly, Nick H / Neil T / Martin S / Lisa G got the only new 8 pointer that is 0-0 (Barnsley – Norwich) and Mark McD got 5 points for his Burnley 3 PNE 1. However, this weeks best score was Will Oppong’s Reading 4 Swansea 0. Eight lovely points my Gooner bruvver!
Bet of the Week:
For all you newbies, the Weekly winner gets a chance to lenfd you his or her expertise and guide you where to place a fiver when you visit the bookies at the weekend (everybody does that right?!). The bet can be on absolutely anything (we’ve F1 bets before, a few gee gees and plenty of madcap accumulators) and the idea is for us all to follow the advice and win some money! Over the years we’re about even all told so let’s hope Martin S gets us off to a flyer! The BotW will be maied round with the last reiminder and my scores on a Friday…
Table:
Week 1 is attached – all prize money will be added on once I have the all players paid up and confirmed…which leads nicely to…
Money!:
If you’ve paid up – thanks! If you haven’t – as soon as please! (contact me for payment details)
Other Stuff:
Spot the good and bad in this email? “Can you put me down for 4-0 for utd, arsenal and chelsea. 1-1 for liverpool. celtic and rangers 3-0 Newcastle beaten 0-1 and the rest 3-0” That’s right! Good that the player mailed me a few scores cos they didn’t have time and bad asking for 3-0 for “the rest”. If you cant/don’t complete all your scores you can ONLY have 2-0 as a “blanket” score! Got that? Good. We have our analysts poring tirelessly over the entries weeding out any spoilers, so don’t do it kids – just say no! I In this case, 2-0 gave the player a better score anyway!

And Another Thing: did you get beaten by a 12 week old???!

Cheers,
Pab

L13 Winter 2008 : Pre Season

We’ve had a flurry of interested punters, the scoresheets are being processed, the huge-ever-pulsating-scoring-matrix-that-makes-tells-us-the-weekly-winner-and-compiles-the-league-table has been fired up by the coal monkeys and we’re almost ready to confiem this season’s runners and riders…involved yet? C’mon, you know you wanna….

We start on weekend 27th/28th September 2008!

If you’re a newcomer (hola!) or a regular (welcome back!), check out the “Rules” on www.pabspace.co.uk – they tell you all you need to know & hopefully it will all make sense!

Send this on to anyone you know who might be interested and get them to mail me so I can add them to the list – the more, the merrier, the more money in the kitty to be won!

P-A-S rocks! You get to show off how good you are at guessign scores! There’s a end of year poll where you get to show off how cool your music taste is! You get to show off how much money you take off the bookies in the “Bet of the Week” feature! Basically, it’s showing off…

Don’t take my word for it, check these testimonials…

  • “I play P-A-S and I’m not mental” – K Charters
  • “I put Palace to win every game. Sometimes they do. It’s all about the long game” – G Blackburn
  • “I was sooooo excited and giddy about playing the legendary PAS I wet myself…” – L Gray
  • “I know about football and I know PAS not only enhances your judgement for fixed odds betting it can be a considerable source of income in itself” – J Sain
  • “I’m a girl and even I won a weekly prize – so two fingers up to you tw*tty boys who think you know everything!” – M Webster
  • “I tried to play the system by putting in 3-1 blanket scores every week. I got found out and banned. Now I’m in jail. Don’t do it kids..” B Hannan
  • “I just threw dice for my scores and finished bottom – I don’t recommend this” – A Bennet-Dawson
  • “F*ck the football, why was Mark Ronson in the Top 5 albums last year?!” – S Morrissey
  • “I used to play religiously every season and now I live in Australia!” – J Fonas
  • “Don’t let your heart rule your head – Rangers always win 3-0 – it’s a nailed on 7 pointer” – C O’McGoldrick
  • “I give my winnings to homeless smackheads” – Mr. 2-0

Anyway… The all leagues have kicked off, so time to start honing those footie predicting skills, watching every game on telly, swotting up on the reports in the papers, poring over the league tables and ignoring every single “tip of the week” from the pro punters – enjoy!

I’ll BE SENDING THIS INVITE OUT A FEW MORE TIMES AND THEN I’ll LEAVE YOU ALONE UNTIL NEXT YEAR… PROMISE!

Cheers,
Pab

PS – remember, getting involved will seriously change your Saturday afternoons for 13 weeks and Geoff Stelling will cheer and dismay you in equal measures! Go on, you know you want to… plus, it’s a real “water cooler” moment on a Monday morning at work!
