“He’s Big & He’s Effin’ ‘Ard!”:
So, who won?
Well, a newbie PASer who took up the challenge in the summer – and my, how that decision has paid off!
He even had the temerity to claim he finished 4th in his first season on our What’s App group (erm, you are all on that aren’t you?!)
It was a close, compacted, confusing season – whilst Liverpool smoothly glide their way to the title with certainty & consistency, our champion battled & spluttered through just like the rest of us.
Anyone could’ve won it this season.
5 of the Top 12 clocked up as many, or more, correct scores than the champion!
Yep, and it was correct scores that settled it…
Our “Winter” champ started in mid-table obscurity at 52nd, dropped to 58th, down another 3 places in Week 3, before breaking the Top 50 in Week 4 – then a “yo-yo” few weeks saw residency in 52nd, 31st & 35th as we reached the halfway point.
This low point was met with a push into the Top Thirty at 25th in Week 8, before leaping up to 13th a week later.
More yo-yoing?
Yep.
From Week 10 it was down to 18th & then hitting the Top Ten in Week 11, prompting a stubborn stay to the end!
With impeccable timing of a seasoned pro, it was up to 7th before hitting top spot when it mattered – a quite remarkable performance given that our champs usually lead from the front & are rarely out of the Top Ten!
So, be upstanding lords, ladies & gents and doff your caps to Mark Potter 356 (46) – He. Is. A. Winner!
Peter Kay, Nat Lofthouse, Sara Cox, Badly Drawn Boy, Maxine Peake, Mark Radcliffe, Fred Dibnah & Diane Morgan, put wood in t’hole & let the corporation pop flow – our boy done proper reet good! Whack that on a barm!
Mr P won by a mere 2 correct scores lead over the very unlucky, Jack Buxton, in second place.
Jack’s lowest position all season was 4th & any other season….
Anyway, at least he finished four points ahead of a rejuvenated Charlie Harris in third place.
Andy Kelly was only 1 point behind in 4th with a vastly improved finish from last season’s 82nd…
Just one point further back, Ryan Graves reflects on a fine season by finishing in fifth spot with Scott Harrison just behind in 6th by virtue of 5 correct scores.
In seventh heaven was resurgent all-time prize money winner, Jazz Sian – let’s hope Spurs finish there too eh, J? ; )
Continuing a rich seam of prize-winning form, “Syndicate” top boy again, Richard Hirst scooped 8th place, only 2 correct scores shy of joint 7th but ending up 6 points ahead of Gareth Morgan in 9th (actually, let’s hope Spurs finish there G!)
The double Champions League winner just edged out perennial spot prize botherer Neil Osborne by 2 points in 10th…
“Being Brendan”:
Just 0 points & 0 places separated our new champion from Paul Vinson 239 (17) in Week 1!
Actually, that’s worth thinking about…
The other Mr P never really recovered from there though, down to 83rd, then to 92nd before hitting a peak in Week 4 at 89th!
A slip down to 94th followed, stabilisation in Week 6 – then the slow descent into the nineties culminated with hitting bottom in Week 11.
Paul rallied to 96th in Week 12 before securing the wooden spoon in the final week.
Alex R, our very own Dan H & Shezan J made gallant efforts over the season to save Paul’s blushes, but…
